Wouldn't that be neat? I could see it now, "breaking news from the Texans camp at 3:01 pm...."

... just to have this image posted in the papers on Monday. (thanks to Larry Tate for switching to a #90 jersey and my MaD PaInT SkilLz)

I think the decision has been made already, whatever the decision is.

If he's gone, dollars to doughnuts Frank Bush is our next DC. Kubes wanted him in the first place, and he's already on the payroll meaning less transistion.

Just for conversations sake, I'd like to see Wade Phillips fired from Dallas and become our next asst. HC and DC.

I have no clue whatsoever if Richard Smith will be here in May or not.

God, I hope not though jesus that guy is not good at coordinating this defense.

I hope he's gone, but I have a bad feeling he will be back. Just par for the course with this team and it's management.

If he is gone, I wonder how long we will have to wait. They won't fire him until they have reviewed everything yada yada yada.

Depends on what they look to replace him with. If it's Frank Bush, it'll be forever before we know. If it's somebody else, then they might dismiss him rather quickly.

Jay Glazer just said that "Kubiak is in, I hear the defensive staff is out". So there you go.

After giving up that final touchdown to the Bears on the long drive I can't imagine how Ricardo Smith could be back. That sealed the deal right there.

Count me in the crowd that hopes Smith is gone. Only person who really deserves to be kept on the defensive staff is Rhodes. There will be some big names available.

Thorn real curious as to why you would want Phillips to come in? We don't have the personnel to execute the 3-4 unless we overhaul the LBers and I'd really hate to see Mario wasted as a 3-4 end.

More Softy McSoftersons in coaching positions? Um, no on Phillips, thank you.

Don't know why Rhodes deserves to stay, other than he's only been here one season. I think Johnny Holland has done a decent job developing talent. That's really the only good thing I can say regarding this defensive staff.

And I agree that switching to a 34 defense would be ludicrous. The Texans don't have one speed rusher on the team, and the 34 requires two. And Mario ould be wastd as a 34 DE. The Texans need a true 43 RDE so that Mario can move to the LDE full time.

Wade is a heck of a DC, but he is a 34 guy not a 43, so I'm not sure how well he would do. Like you, I expect it to be Bush though. Anyone know his defensive philosophy? Does he like to blitz etc.

I'm going to call BS on that, until I see a link.

I believe him. Don't think a fellow long-time Texanstalk member would lie about something that is this crucial and put his reputation on the line.

Anyways, I hope Ray Rhodes, Johnny Holland, Frank Bush, and maybeee Jethro Franklin stays.

Everyone else can go.

I still wish Kubiak would've fired Smith at half time, and have executor escort him out of the stadium on handcuff and shackles, ala Medieval times, with fans booing and throwing tomatoes(drinks, popcorns?) at him on the way out.

That's how you go into the off-season with dramatic fashion.

MMmmm, I sense a slight amount of latent hostility in your post towards Dickie.

Rhodes has been here only one year here but has a good resume and has DC and HC experience that is good to have around any staff IMO. I think as a whole the Defensive staff has done a pretty poor job developing talent.

Look, I'm not against firing Smith. But, in my view, Glaser is speculating just as much as everyone else.

I'll tell you why I hope he gets fired. So I don't have to look at those Pepto-Bismol colored soap bars or whatever that is in a bunch of you guy's avatars.;)

Right. But, it's significant in that this is the first speculation on Smith getting the axe outside of fan sites.

PFW was speculating about this right before we went on our 4 game win streak.

I don't know if the Oakland game sealed it but when you look at the numbers at the end of the season they are going to be bad again. Since Kubiak has been here there has been a nice progression on offense but none on defense. If anything slight regression. Richard got three years, I hope the FO is ready to move forward.

Does the Comical ever come up with stories like this?
Bears defensive coordinator Bob Babich on the hot seat
HOUSTON—Given its dismal yearlong performance, the Bears' defense figures to feature several new faces next season.

But what about the future of defensive coordinator Bob Babich?

"You'll have to talk to the coach about that," Babich said after his unit allowed a season-high 455 yards during Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Texans. "Anytime you lose a game of this importance … it means something. Once again, as players and coaches, we take this one hard. It's a big game, we didn't play well and that's the bottom line."

LOL - Rep your way.

It was Capers before, now it's Smith. It will just become someone else's after Smith is gone... Travis Johnson, Weaver, Greenwood, or Faggins perhaps.

I would have fired Dick after Kubiak's first season. He absolutely should be fired. No question about it. He can take Hoke and the line coach as well.

I think there is going to be a lot of mad people here when Richard Smith keeps his job. Not that I think he should, but he still has only 3 guys on defense that start on any playoff team. That is having your hands tied.

I think we draft defense heavy and keep the basic coaching staff.

Agreed. The front office will have to evaluate if there is another guy who could turn this cast into a strong unit. I doubt anyone really could. We have some huge deficiancies that will be addressed through F/A and the draft. If Smith has been asking for more behind the scenes and the team has shunned him than maybe they feel he deserves another oportunity with more weapons. Who do you think could come in and get the current players to do much better?

Romeo Crennel is said to be unemployed....

I want to acknowledge this fabu photoshop.

Also just want to say that Jay Glazer breaks a ton of stories. Got the Spygate tapes. First with the Plaxico Burress thing. FWIW.

Yeah, for everyone who instantly writes off what Glazer reported because Kubiak denied it you have to account for who Glazer is actually talking to. Kubiak is not his source on this but I can almost guarantee you its someone involved in the process. Gary is not going to comment on R. Smith until after the firing has gone through. I'm sure the Texans could change their mind and keep Smith but the idea that I get from this is that whenever Glazer talked to his source the odds were heavily in favor of a changing of the guard defensively.
