Here are the numbers after today's game

Chris Johnson

1094 yds 8 TD

Matt Forte

1081 yds 6 TD

Steve Slaton

1024 yds 8 TD

Speed Slaton can still win this, and so can the other rookies. Slaton is the most explosive back in the league with the most running plays of 40 yards or more(3) and 10 running plays of 20 yards are more(4th). He has fumbled twice in 206 attempts.

Why.....he hardly fumbled in college?? The only time he had problems is when he had that wrist injury. You can relax Texan fans, the guy won't lay the ball on the ground again.
 
that little dump off from Schaub to Slaton for 21 yards @ end of the first half was the most intelligent play I've ever seen in Texans history. Slaton could have easily picked up another 5-10 yards, maybe even scored, but he stopped the clock by heading for the sidelines saving one second on the clock so Brown could attempt a 41 field goal. that was a heady, heady play on Steve's part putting the team first. Doubt he really cares about individual meaningless awards over winning games :specnatz:

But he didn't look into the future and foresee that Brown would miss the FG, which is just inexcusable. Inexcusable, I say! :mcnugget:
 
He's a beast. He did a great job of avoiding the brunt of hits today and sliding by defenders. As long as he can stay healthy he's our most consistent big play threat (he gets far more touches than AJ). All we need is a bruiser to punch it in when we get inside the 10 and give Slaton a breather and our ground game is solid.
 
Steve should be able to surpass those guys after we play the Raiders (assuming we hold Chris Johnson and Matt Forte in check when we play them as well).

Just don't ever forget that AJ is the biggest reason that Walter and OD get all those other touches. Every secondary we face is focused on AJ.
 
Slaton is the healthy version of DD(W). He's gonna be a GREAT weapon with a full offseason of conditioning coaching and film time.

Absolutely, AJ completely changes how defenses approach us, but Slaton's delivering the most consistent big yard plays these days, and those are devastating to opposing D's confidence.

Yes, but we still need to get him a complimentary back. We cannot run him into the ground like we did to DD.
 
Chris Johnson is pretty good - his numbers suffer because Lendale gets many of the TDs, although Johnson gets more carries.

Other than that, all three running backs look very good. Slaton's explosiveness at any time from anywhere on the field make him fun to watch.
 
Yup, this was a fantastic draft class for offense, all around, really.

Two QBs who led inredible turnarounds
3 or 4 running backs that are having probowl seasons already

not bad
 
They were having this discussion today on the pregame show...one RB that they didn't talk about....Darren McFadden.

At one point he had twenty five touches. I'm not exactly jumping up and down right now. That's nine more in my book than he should of had.

Yes Steve is putting the team first to cover the font offices personnel mistakes. But at what cost ? He goes done Smith and Kubes will have their a$$es stick out big time. You don't plow the field with Secrateriate .

Did you see the Oakland line in the monday night game ? Brutal. Big Al Calls and offers you McFaddin for Slaton straight up, you do the deal.

Baloney. No one would take that deal right now.

There is absolutely no reason to think that McFadden will be a better player than Slaton the way Slaton has played this season.

Why would Kubiak and Rick Smith be embarrassed if Slaton went down? It's part of football. Players get hurt. I trust the professionals more than anyone else here to know if a guy is being overworked or not. And by looking at Slaton's stats, he's not.

Bull corn....they busted every Rb they've picked and the twenty five touches is another domino falling. Slaton isn't going to be very effective if he's worn down and wrecks a knee because of it. this crap is on the folks on Kirby. they are making this bad luck with poor choices. Not football Karma. He's not the same back he was four weeks ago.

& I stand by the McFaddin post. As I recall there were quite a few people blasting us for the Mario pick three seasons ago. Big al calls you do the deal.

I wouldn't take the deal either. Even if we leave the contracts out of the situation, Slaton has proved to fit into this offense extremely well. He's got great vision, burst, great at rushing and receiving. His blocking is better than expected and improving, and he's got more power than any of us expected. He pushes the pile forward more than he gets hit backward and never stops churning his legs.

What I've seen of mcfadden in oakland is the same stuff I saw of mcfadden in arkansas the last couple years. When he gets hit, his legs go dead. He's not near as good as Slaton running between the tackles and has to kick everything to the outside.

There's no doubt he's athletically gifted but he wasn't worth the #4 overall pick.

I really like Matt Forte but I think Chris Johnson has been the best rookie running back this year. His stats aren't quite as good as Forte's and about even with Slaton, but he's been splitting carries with Lendale who's got like 14 TD's this year and takes over near the goalline. As much as I disagreed with this Titan's pick, I have to say they hit a homerun.
 
I don't do the deal. McFadden's been the one struggling with injuries. Slaton's carried the full load. Slaton doesn't want 12 carries a game, he wants 20 plus. I don't see him breaking down soon. I think he puts the weight training in to protect himself, same as Maurice Jones Drew.

No, he's better. In the last 4 weeks Slaton has had 3 of his best 4 games.

I think Slaton is the best rookie RB out of this class. He does it all, and with a smile. This isnt just a homer thing, he is tough, quick, and decisive.

I absolutely agree with you. We also have a QB that can read a D and throw more than dump offs to the checkdown. That doesn't hurt any. I'd like to see Leach get some carries just because he's a brute and he's earned it.

Imagine how amazing Slaton's numbers (ypc especially) would be if he didn't have to run inside the 20
