Pittman suspended....who's the long-snapper?

Mailman

Pwned by Hakeem
The NFL announced Tuesday the suspension without pay for four games of six players -- Charles Grant, New Orleans, Deuce McAllister, New Orleans, Bryan Pittman, Houston Will Smith, New Orleans, Kevin Williams, Minnesota and Pat Williams, Minnesota -- that violated the NFL Policy on Anabolic Steroids and Related Substances.

The players specifically violated a longstanding provision of the policy relating to the use of diuretics and water pills, which serve as masking agents for steroids and are potentially dangerous to the health of players.

Who takes his place?

I say we just go for it on fourth down the rest of the year and attempt 2-point conversions after every TD. I was very impressed with Turk's athleticism on that busted snap yesterday.:gun:

It make me wonder if this has been the reason for so many bad snaps. He hasn't had a very good season. Maybe this has been weighing on his mind for a while.

Wow, the Vikings are in trouble.

The NFL has really dragged its feet in this for a long time. All of the six players above (according to McCain) tested positive in traning camp over the summer. Kind of a BS thing to do to wait until the final 4 games to suspend players, in some cases teams making playoff runs.

Didn't Pittman run it by team doctors or even the league before he even used it and got the okay??

Funny thing is, there is a 1-800 hotline for NFL players to check substances before using to see if they are banned. I can't remember what player was interviewed, but they said that they left several messages at that number and the phone calls were never returned.
People are pointing fingers in every direction.

From November 3rd when this first shook out:
HOUSTON -- Houston Texans long snapper Bryan Pittman met with league officials in New York on Monday to appeal a possible suspension after testing positive for the weight-loss diuretic Bumetanide.

"We took the opportunity to review the test results and present Bryan's physicians' records and testimony demonstrating that they authorized Bryan to take weight loss medication," Pittman's lawyer David Cornwell said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

Bumetanide is banned under the NFL steroids policy because it is considered a masking agent for steroids. However, Cornwell's statement continued: "Bryan is also gratified that the evidence confirmed that he did not take steroids."
Not sure who it means when it says, "they authorized" it... most likely Bryan's physicians.

I went into the stadium really early yesterday (cause it was damned windy and cold outside) and Dreessen was practicing long-snapping with Bulman.

Why would a long snapper take steroids? To help him zing those balls a little harder?

He wasn't suspended for taking steroids. He took something that could be used to mask the use of steroids. And that's against the rules.

BUT...

Taking steroids and growth hormone could keep a long-snapper strong enough, fast enough, and healthy enough to perform much much better than if he didn't. Taking steroids (and other performance enhancing drugs), if done right, can pretty much improve your performance in any sport.

Do they allow shooting guards to turn around and shoot between their legs?, because he's better at that anyway. :)

Hey do yall remember that Disney flick with the Donkey that kicked field goals... I wonder if that guy is available... the snapper and not the donkey

Betcha Flipper could do it. Although, there is the whole fish out of water thing...........Air Bud, maybe.

I say we get David Carr as he is used to get the hell beat out of him and putting the ball on the ground. Beside we need more MB fodder.

Pittman didn't take Starcaps

Sources told ESPN senior analyst Chris Mortensen that Pittman did not use StarCaps but tested positive for another banned diuretic.

"I want the people and the fans to understand that I was not trying to mask steroids or any banned substances," Pittman said according to Houston television station KRIV.

"I thought I took the proper procedures and methods by getting a doctor's authorization to take the diuretic," Pittman said, according to the station. "The diuretic I took did not dilute any urine specimen, which is what a player does when they are trying to mask something. The NFL toxicologist confirmed there was nothing else in my specimen other than the diuretic."

In this mornings chronic there is an article that says the nfl players union is filing a lawsuit to block the suspensions of five of the six players.

Guess who is the odd man out?

The article goes on to state that Pittmans lawyer said that the circumstances "differ substantially from the men who used StarCaps".

What's the difference?

David Cornwell, Pittmans lawyer, said he didn't think a challenge by Pittman would succeed.

Why not?

The article also mentions a seventh player "under scrutiny" Atlanta's Grady Jackson, has not been suspended.

Why?

More anti-Texan bias?

I just figured that he used some other masking agent and not Starcaps.

Pittman wasn't taking Starcaps like everyone else. He was taking some form of diuretic, IIRC.

Yes - Pittman, his lawyer, and the NFLPA are all choosing to not file additional appeals because of anti-Texan bias.

Either that, or they are smart enough to know that there is a difference between his case and the others.

I thinnk it is absolutely unbalanced that a player like Haynesworth or that jerk from the Vikings, can mame, paralyze, break someone's neck, or knee, and induce harm to another player that will most likely hinder them the rest of their lives, and they just get a fine of $25,000. BUT Brian takes a diuretic and he is suspended for 4 games, and they also are taking a percentage of their salary per week, of which Brian's is $128,000 per week. That is ludicrous. Who comes up with those ridiculous rules.

it was proven that Brian had taken no steriods, only diuretics for weight. What a nice guy and what a shame!

The answer is quite simple. The company that produces the celebrity fad "miracle weight loss pill" StarCaps conveniently left out the labeling of its most active ingredient...........the diuretic Bumetanide. That is the basis for the other players having a basis for appeal.

Pittman knew that Bumetanide was prescribed to him.........and it was up to him to be knowledgeable of this very important NFL banned list of substances available to all players.:

It is an ill-advised way of "losing weight" that may have its limited merits in premenstrual / menstrual females temporarily retaining significant fluid loads. But it does not lead to true body fat weight loss in anyone. When a healthy (no congestive heart failure resulting in uncontrolled water retention, for example) male takes them, it only steals water from muscle tissue (possibly leading to weakening), from blood volume (leading to lethargy, dizziness and loss of endurance), or significant fluid and electrolyte imbalances which contribute to compromised performance both mental and physical. Could very likely account for the reversal of Pittman's previously consistent performance.

Agree with your general premise but Pittman's salary is $605k for the season so he makes about $40k per game.

Do not attempt to influence my thinking by introducing facts.

I prefer to believe in anti Texan bias and conspiricy theories..........thank you.

I think he should be fined by the team for not actually taking steroids, unless he can prove that he did. Go team! :fans:

Thanks cnnnd...sounds like Pittman has only himself to blame.

There goes another conspiracy theory...:spy:

I still think there was another gunman on the grassy knoll....:)
