Texas v. Texas Tech BCS

Phil Kessel: Nice Guy. Tries Hard.
I dont think it can happen. Alabama will face Florida in the SEC championship, and barring a meltdown, the winner will play the winner of the Big 12 (Most Likely).
If Texas Tech loses to Oklahoma, things in the Big 12 get complicated. Now you have 3 teams with 1 loss that beat each other. Texas over Oklahoma, Oklahoma over Texas Tech, and Tech over Texas. I dont know how the tie breaker goes, is it BCS ranking? That is still hard to project. How much would Tech fall if beaten, how high would Oklahoma jump? Its just weird. Its almost like a playoff system is needed to decide the Big 12 south.

However, if Texas Tech wins out, this is moot. They will most likely play the winner of the SEC. USC is pretty much out of the title race.

On the radio the other day, they said it would BCS ranking. Gets pretty funky if Tech loses.

I can almost guarantee that Texas will be the winner of a three-way tie in the South because of their strength of schedule.

Even if OU beats Tech, there is little chance of them jumping Texas in the BCS.

And because Tech has no BCS history, the human voters are going to murder them if they ever do stumble. It's bullshit, I know, but that's the way it would go.

Texas just jumped over Oklahoma in the coaches poll.

They are now ahead of OU in all three components of the BCS.

Oklahoma still has two tough games ahead of them to prove the voters wrong though.

I am not sure. If both OU and Texas win out, I could see OU jumping over
UT. Beating Tech and O-State to close the season will be more impressive than beating Kansas and A&M. Plus they have better out of conference schedule(Cincinnati=8-2, TCU=9-2) vs UT has had only Rice( 7-3) with a winnign record. Even Arkansas has a sub .500 record right now.

I am a big UT fan and I want to see us ahead of OU, but I could see the humans and computers giving them the edge over us, even though we beat them.

Assuming OU beats Tech this weekend the tie breaker will be the BCS ranking and Texas has a stranglehold on that. Tech will drop to #5 and Texas will go #2 assuming Alabama stays #1 by beating Auburn. Oklahoma will go #3 and Florida will take #4.

This is really interesting. Obviously it all keys on OU beating Tech. I think the best matchup would be a Texas vs. Florida national championship game. I can't see Alabama getting by Florida in the SEC championship game.

I am still uncertain why UT has the stranglehold over the BCS. If OU beats Tech, couldn't that be enough to vault OU over UT in the BCS?

I think he means the computers.

Texas has a huge lead over OU in the computers. OU will catch up but there is very little possibility that they pass them.

OU will most likely jump back over Texas in the human polls though.

OU's only shot is that they get a big enough lead in the human polls to offset the computers.

UT's only shot is that OU holds only a very slight lead in each human poll and the computer poll keeps them far enough ahead to have a higher total average.

Of course, all Tech has to do is win.

I find it difficult to believe (I know its possible and stranger things have happened) for the voters to put OU above UT in the human polls .... Who beat who on a neutral field ?! Thats pretty damn difficult to overlook.

TT and OU have to play each other and OU has to OSU to end the season while TT gets Baylor ..... I think TT wins out , they are for real. The beatdown they put on OSU made a believer outa me.

The team that can (logicly) jump UT is Florida but that means Bama falls from #1 ....

If TT wins out its either TT and Bama or Fla.

If TT loses one its either Texas and Bama or Florida.
(pending Texas wins out)

I agree with you in theory.

But If OU beats the #2 team this late in the season and right after that beats #12 they will probably jump us in the human polls. They might not, but hell, they had us ranked below OU just two weeks ago. I don't agree with it. But from studying the way the coaches vote, I think it will happen.

Florida will not jump unless they win the SEC. To do that they would need to beat Alabama. So whoever wins the SEC is in the NC game.

We have the computers on our side and our lead over OU is large enough that they won't pass us there.

If Tech goes down, they are out. Again, not fair, but the humans will drop them for losing late. Whoever has the higher BCS ranking between Texas and OU would then have to beat Mizzou to get into the NC (pretty likely that they would).

If Tech wins, they play Mizzou (and if they win) they go to the NC.

Lots of stuff could still happen.

Texas or Texas Tech or Oklahoma better pray that Bama some how can pull the upset off and beat Florida. I don't think that anyone wants to play the Gators right now. Wow, they're good!

No way my Trojans make the BCS game (thanks Quizz)

I would like a UT vs USC match up though. I think it would be a could game all around with great defense vs. great offense

If Tech gets into the NC and Oregon St wins out for the Rose Bowl bid we could see Texas vs USC in the Fiesta Bowl.

Basically, if UT beats A&M, they are guaranteed a BCS game. We have been talking about the situation if OU beats Tech. What happens if Tech beats OU and then loses to MIzzou? Do they still go to the Natl Championship or does UT go?

Thats a tough one to answer I think.

Texas would move up to #2 in the BCS behind the SEC champion.

The only thing that screw that up for us is Utah if they finish undefeated. They are about to make a jump in the computers if they beat BYU and the more the top teams lose, the higher they climb.
