I know some of ya'll are going to destroy me for this, but what could it hurt. He throws picks, our QBs throw picks. At least his feet can make big plays in the clutch. Who knows, maybe being back at home will be good for him. I know this much, I don't want to go into next season with Sage as a back-up to Schaub anymore. Trade him and get what we can for him. May as well trade him to the Titans. He seems to fit what they want in a QB - a manager. You can't put the game in his hands and expect him to win it.
 
Maybe this was Vince's plan all along. Suck it up until he could get back home. I'd do this only if we can grab him in FA......no way I trade to a division opponent for him.

I actually had this thought a couple years ago.

Why would you do this? You want a guy who can't play QB well and who sulks about it when people paying attention have the gall to point it out to come back here and play his act for us? That's a stupid idea.

Vince Young is staying in Tennessee where the Titans will eat his contract until he does his Akili Smith impression and falls out of the NFL.

Sage doesn't need to be here following this season and if the Texans keep him they're fools. He's worthless so don't expect anyone to trade anything for him now. The Titans don't want him and wouldn't have been stupid enough to sign him in the first place.

So the question still remains - what do the Texans do for a back-up QB? Schaub is going to get hurt, we know that. So if the Texans cut Sage loose, who do they bring in?
 
If we sign VY, sign Ryan Leaf too... we will drown the opposing defense with tears of emotion and sulk into the endzone.

You bring in an old veteran and I'm talking about someone who has started for another team for a long time and who still thinks they can play in this league. Mark friggin Brunell is playing for New Orleans and he's started and won in the NFL and he'd be a fantastic backup QB (and in fact he is, only for the Saints and not us). You find a guy like him and put him behind Schaub and you know what? You can probably have your pick of guys like that because Matt Schaub has gone down both years he's been here. Those old guys who can still manage a game and know what it takes to win will take note of the fact that your young starter can't stay on the field and see an opportunity to play.

This is a no-brainer. Signing Sage was retarded. People talking about how we had one of the best backups in the NFL is just idiotic. We have a journeyman who throws interceptions like that's what he's paid to do and I can name 5-6 teams off the top of my head with a better backup than ours. That there was once a "Start Sage" movement (bowel movement if you ask me) is an embarrassing thing for Texans fans everywhere. People who actually thought Sage should be starting need to go punch themselves in the face and get "NOT SUITABLE FOR EMPLOYMENT WITH AN NFL TEAM" inked on their foreheads.
 
hell, I was a big supporter of VY and was always disgusted with the mean spirited banter towards a Houstonian that brought lots of attention to our home...but even I think this idea is idiotic at this point and time.

But Brad Johnson was supposedly one of those game managers that could still play...

On the other hand, I would trade Sage for Brunell and not think twice about it.

Brad Johnson can play. He is a bad fit for what they are asking him to do and keep in mind that he's playing in Jerry's "circus". That's not the kind of QB he is but it does illustrate a serious point that I didn't mention. You look for a veteran who is a good fit for what you are doing. If he can't run the kind of offense you want to run then what's the point? Brad Johnson can't be Tony Romo and never will. I think he could probably run our offense better than the Cowboys offense. Our passing game would maybe shorten up a bit but he could make the throws. He could certainly do what Kerry Collins has been doing.
 
Brad Johnson and Mark Brunell? The Texans don't need a game manager at QB. We don't have the defense for that. At least at this point in time, VY has more upside (I Think?).
 
I am totally for bringing in VY, when his contract is up, to participate in a try-out for the QB position. I believe this team and fanbase are in need of some magic. VY has some magic left in him, I just do not want to pay for it up front.

Herv, I'll have to disagree. While I don't think Brad Johnson can do the things Romo can do and maybe he isn't a perfect fit, his days are over. His throws wre lifeless and barely got there most of the time. He is a statue that still made bad decisions even when given time. The difference between he and Collins is that Collins can still throw the ball and has a gun. If you watched any of the Cowboy games you will know how severely limited Johnson was. 10 yard outs, a staple of any offense, were floating and being picked off. We agree on alot but I respectively disagree on this.
 
this thread's funny, the texans should sign me. i can hand the ball off and run for my life for a few yards too. game manager right here folks. that probably wouldnt work on a team giving up 30pts a game, but all of these guys mentioned have been great without a top tier defense .... oh wait.

agreed. I was all about Vince on draft day..but really, that ship has sailed. Now Pat White...that is an idea I could get behind

Really? He is about the same as VY but has a weaker arm. I dont want a guy from a hybrid spread shotgun system that you have to beat a pro style into. Unless we run the spread next year.
 
I think a lot has naturally come to Vince and he's been wildly successful at the HS and College level with little work. I think he struck the iron of the NFL when it was hot but it was a year too early for him as far as progressing as a QB. I think the NFL has taught him one bitter lesson, anyone can fail epically.

Some people needs to get away from home and some need to go home to remake themselves. I'd be ok with Bringing Vince back home but only for the right reasons, price and situation. No trades, no high price tag, and I'd have to see Vince coming back not as a hero but a man humbled by his experience and wanting a shot at redemption. No guarantees outside of that. No starting position. Just a playbook, a QB coach, and work your way back in.

I am one of few that isn't ready to give up on Vince yet. I don't think that Houston would be a good place for him, but given a good system and a team that would appreaciate his talents and prepare him on his technique, that the best could still be yet to come.

As far as the comment about Brad Johnson, if I could be Jerry Jones for one day, I would make you a deal only second to a moonlight madness sale.

I feel that is what Tennessee has.

In that offense, they ask their QB to do as little as possible and just control the game and limit mistakes.

I thought VY would take about three years to learn the ropes. His rookie year was about what I expected, but he has regressed since then.

He has never had to really work to be good at football. We know he has the athletic ability to succeed. Next we will find out if he has the heart and work ethic.
 
I know Houston would give him unconditional support, no matter how bad he plays. Tennessee fans don't care about the past and were kinda proven right by wanting Collins.

Hell, Houston fans are still clamoring for Steve Francis and haven't given up on him. The guy hasn't practiced in 1.5 years and fans still think he can play a significant role. This city is so attached and sentimental to its past figures.
