How clutch is Schaub?

Maddict5

Hall of Fame
after the game today, i was thinking about how schaub came through at the end of the game against the fins (not single-handedly or anything but you know what i mean)....

which got me thinking about how it was just like in last yrs game when he drove us down the field in the last minute against the fins....

which got me thinking about how it was just like 2 weeks ago against the jags when he drove us to a fg with a minute left..

now schaub has faults i know but i cant remember him letting us down at the end of a game when we NEEDED a score

Schaub 2 - 0 against the Dolphins

Schaub 3 - 14 against everyone else.

Schaub now actually has more wins than Sage

Sage 4 - 2

Matt 5 - 14

But, hey he got us a win today, good job, let's keep it up

I feel like getting the W today the way that schaub did was good for him. He is still learning how to start and win while doing so, If he isnt a connsistent winning quarterback by the end of the season, I will be very suprised.

I don't view Schaub as clutch or as a choke artist. He's just a QB that is still trying to learn to be a starter.

Matt Schaub was clutch in the game winning drive. That's all you can ask from any player, to play your best when the game is on the line. He did that today.

So far he has two critical drives late in two different games, against the Jags and Dolphins. He of course got us in position to tie the game or win it and we did both in each games. How clutch is he you ask? Well, he's the polar opposite of Sage. I'll just leave it at that.

Hopefully he is growing into something special. If he cuts down the INTs Kubes is right, he has all the tools to be a top 5 QB...But Carr had all the tools too...

He's trying to win games for us when we need the drives, and the Defense has definitely stepped up the past few weeks.

No, Carr never had the tool. Poise is included when talking about QB tools and Carr never shown he had that in all 4 or 5 years with the Texans. Sure he had the physical tools, but he wasn't right up in the noggin.

I know Schaub shown some mental errors as well, but I think that can be fixed with better o-line protection. If Matt o-line can keep him from getting smack on every passing play, then he might be able to develop some rhythm and comfortability in the pocket throughout the game, which will lead to better throw and better decision making.

Yeah, but Schaub doesn't let those mental errors run him down and hurt his confidence. Carr would hang his head on the sidelines. Schaub comes out and tries to get the job done. You have to respect him for that.

Yep. I said after the game that after he threw his two ints and knock around by the fins D, he never let it faze his game. He always came back out onto the offense with the same confidence he had at the beginning of the game. Thats what I like about Schaub and that what separates the decent QB from the good one. That's what I have confidence in Schaub to be able to develop into a good QB.

im not sure why you think the defense has steped up. anytime we need a stop late in the game they dont seem to get it done. they just gave up 28 to the dolphins and not because of the turnovers. none of those turnovers gave miami great field position. in fact if it wasnt for the offense consistantly putting up long drives and keeping the defense off the field who knows how many miami could of scored.

Definitely. Gotta love that.

I agree that it's encouraging, but I do have to admit that seeing the same mistakes over and over again throughout his tenure as a Texan concerns me. Judgment is still a long way off for Schaub, though.

Considering Matt almost lost the game for us on the first few possession, he has a long way to go before I'll call him clutch.

You don't lose a game in the first two possessions but you sure can win a game in the last two possessions.

It does not matter how he plays good or bad hes our QB next year its set in stone :texflag::texflag:

That was a hell of a read and throw to Andre for the second touchdown.
It was a great throw to Andre on the 2-point-busted-play conversion
(tight spiral, accurate-as-hell.) Sage doesn't have that poise, and it
cost us games.

Schaub has been calm under fire since he got here, included his first
start against the Colts last season, when we ALMOST drove for a win.
Show me when Sage has been able to calm the team down after mistakes.

Today, OD fumbled.
Today, Schaub threw a pick
Today, Slaton fumbled
Today, Jacoby muffed a punt

So, that's 4 turnovers (damn near 5 if you count Kevin's fumble.)
Yet, the team NEVER lost confidence because their LEADER didn't lose
his. Did you see Sage almost cry after only ONE interception on Monday
night?

EVERY team in the league makes mistakes, but not every team has the
poise it takes to come back and win ANYWAY. 417 yards for Schaub says
I shouldn't hear SHITELSE about a quarterback controversy in Houston.

He's always been a badass. We all knew the wins would start piling up once the D held the other team to under 30 pts.and I am so glad they're finally doing it. Not to take a single thing away from Schaub, but had our D played like they were earlier in the year, this day would not have turned out as well as it did.

But I totally agree, I was completly impressed with the level of play today by all the Texans. ( well for the most part. I'm not going to bicker right now because I'm still smiling from the WIN WE JUST GOT!!!):texflag:

I'm still not sold on his long-term destination.

He did stone-up on a lot of clutch plays today, I admit that. You can NOT deny it.

But he also made a lot of lazy passes that were had-scratchers. I don't know if he's trying to finesse the ball in there or what. The looping pass to OD for the big gainer at the end of the game was one of those floating passes that found its mark: He MEANT to do that, but his passes downfield are generally floaters or thrown later than they should be.

And I don't like how sloe he is getting away from center. I know the knee might be sore, but this is still something that I have seen since game 3 of last year.

This was a fun game. I don't care that I don't care for Schaub. This game was fun, and it was long overdue. If Schaub keeps doing this, which is something I question that he CAN do, then I will eat my Texans cap (A little shot to SWT.) Speaking of SWT, where's he been?

How about the 1st TD throw?

He hung in the pocket, threw the ball and got creamed. He "only" threw for 350+ yards after that.

Lets keep #8 clean and we'll get more wins.

Considering Matt almost lost the game for us on the first few possession, he has a long way to go before I'll call him clutch.

C'mon....the guy was coming back from injury and was rusty...Matt Schaub IS A STARTER in this leauge (fans try to diss him, because he's not a pro bowl QB) and he's great at running a 2 min. offense.

The only problem I have with Schaub is his health, when healthy he's a good QB who puts up yards in a top 5, TOP 5 OFFENSE.

Like I said before.....when healthy Matt Schaub is a prototypical pocket passer......hell his TD pass to AJ and 2pt conversion to AJ was pratically back 2 back TD passes.

Yeah, and for a split second, I felt like "great, here we go again". Little things like that can crush a teams momentum. Im just glad the rest of the team didn't buy into it and kept playing hard. oh well, we got our man back, and Allen got a taste of his own medicine today :) (y'all see that temper tantrom he threw?)

:fans:

Schaub was clutch today. Clutch on the 2-point play with AJ and clutch at
the end of the game to get us in field position for Brown's FG. And pretty dang good the rest of the time. Good game Matt !

Poetic justice.

That was so awesome- Schaub leading us on the game winning drive!!

It's incredible that we won this game. Very tough conditions for the Texans on the road. All those turnovers!? The Packers scored their 21 points off 3 of the 4 turnovers. The only time they didn't score off a turnover was Daniels' fumble on the 2 yard line.

This was a very very good win for our team. If our defense can consistently keep teams around 20 pts/ game or less, we will get a lot of W's. The score today really should have been something like 40-10!

Schaub looked rusty today. He made SEVERAL throws into double coverage that were questionable at best. I like the guy. He can be a good QB, but I don't like the gunslinger "Favre" style I see in that. Having said all that, I think he can be the Texans QB of the future. He shows a lot of poise in the pocket and took some hard shots today that should quieten the fans who think he has a glass jaw. Like everyone else, I'm tired of looking to next year for a breakout season, but I think next season will see us take the NFL by storm. We seem to be learning how to win close games, beat the teams we should and pull out a surprise victory like todays. What I wouldn't give for a tackle of Gerrard on 4th and who cares and Sage to tuck the ball and fall on the ground.

Schaub and clutch is like oil and water, seriously, he's cost us more games than he's won. Great game by him to bounce back after the pick, the more he plays the more he matures. He has the tools but makes too many mistakes. A win against the titans and running the table the rest of the year will get me off the fence. He throws up good numbers but there's always a number other than zero in the interception category. We'll go as far as he carries us.

C'mon. Our defense giving up 30+ points a game, and the corners giving
10-yard cushions on 3rd and 5 have been FAR more costly for the Texans
than Matt Schaub. Maybe if the defense had been getting off the field on
3rd down, the offense wouldn't have to play "touchdown-or-bust" every
game.

This is the first season, in which the Texans had an offensive line jell and play
well together. This season was a growth season to begin with. New line
coach, new scheme, 3 new starters on the O-line, Adibi, Wilson, Slaton,
Dunta, Reeves, Ferguson, have replaced many of the hambones we had
to start the season. The Texans are by FAR better than they were to start
the season, and that bodes well for next year.

Schaub is a huge part of where the Texans want to go, same as the lot
of players I named earlier. Take yourself off the ledge, and enjoy the
growth of our future championship team. One thing that is consistent
since Kubiak got here. The Texans have NEVER quit on ANY game since
Kubes got here. Most teams with the Texans' record HAVE quit already.

I see constant improvement, and though you hate to spurn your boy Sage,
Matt has the poise to get us a scoring drive when we need it. Just this
year alone, he's won 2 games and tied once on last minute drives. Today,
the TEAM screwed up OVER AND OVER. Yet, they were CALM and CONFIDENT when they needed it most.

Somebody blamed Sage's Monday night interception on an empty backfield.
Matt led the game-winning drive with a 5-wide empty backfield. That
requires a quarterback who can actually READ A DEFENSE. Give the man
his propers. Since the Miami game, which he threw 2 picks on the first
two series, Matt has shown his team how to sack it up and go get a 'W'
in SPITE of screwing up.

Championship team in a couple years. You heard it here first. Peyton
Manning screwed up ROYALLY when he got to the league. Jim Mora, Sr.
has famous Youtube clips of him dissing Peyton (Playoffs!??)

Growth. Focus on the growth of this team, and enjoy the ride.

The Colts have had 2 losing seasons in 11 years with Manning at QB. The first when Peyton was a rookie. Can't we wait until the Texans have 1 winning season before comparing them to a winning organization? Just one, please.

I thought Schaub played very well, especially considering that he was coming off an injury in a tough place to play. I thought the team as a whole played hard, if not smart. I happy about that. But, I'm not going to blow smoke about this being a championship team after another 3 game winning streak against losing teams. I'm not going to crow about a 6-7 record and being eliminated from the playoffs with 3 weeks to go.

This is essentialy garbage time in the NFL. And Teflonman has proven to be the King of garbage time during his 3 years here. There was a ton of bashing on the so called negative posters five weeks ago, after the last Texans 3 game win streak. Then, the Texans promptly dropped 3 in a row against winning teams. Destroying what slim chance they had at a playoff berth.

I'm just asking for Teflonman's team to win one game against a winning team this season before proclaiming them a future Super Bowl winner. That one game is next week against the Tennessee Titans. Defend your house against a team and coach that has had your number since Teflonman took the job. Accomplish that, finish out the season with wins against inferior opponents, and then we can talk about what great things are in store for this franchise.

Until then, this is just a mediocre team that eeked out a win versus another mediocre squad. Matt Schaub is this millenium's version of Chris "Chandelier" Chandler. And Teflonman is King of garbage time. That's not being negative. Those are just the facts, at this time.

Hard to argue with that.

All I know is that Matt Schaub is better than Rosencopter. And for now that's all we have. I was happy for Schaub, he made some really great throws and early on he looked rusty. But that's no surprise really considering this was his first game back and it was a really tough environment.

I'm saying Schaub is a young clutch QB. Elway didn't win a title until he was
85, with a HELL of a team built AROUND him. The Texans' pieces are only
STARTING to come together, so don't twist the context in which I call
Schaub clutch. This season, you can say Schaub led his team to victory
TWICE and to one overtime on final drives. He's already the best QB in
team history, and he is only going to get BETTER.

From what I've seen, the guy looks like he could be a solid starter if he stayed healthy. Unfortunately, he hasn't stayed healthy in 2 seasons
