we played 2 tough teams on the road. i think we got a good shot at each of these next 2. the team didnt play that bad today we just couldnt capitalize on our opportunities.

we played 2 of the best defenses in the league, or offense should be alright this year. still not sure about our defense. i predict we win at least one and maybe both of our next games. if not then we can panic.
 
I'm tempted to say that if our offense is within field goal range, just bring in brown. What can brown do for you? Give you 3 points, which is 3 more than Schaub and crew can do.

On the other hand, I will be positive and relax.......:mshadows:

The Jags are a power running team and they dominated the clock today againt the Colts. And the Colts have Peyton Manning. I don't see us winning either game.

I think we'll be able to hang on defensively against the Jaguars and I think our offense will show up and play much better than it has played the first two games. I don't think the Jag's D is as good as either the Titans' or the Steelers'. I think that's a very winnable game for us.

And I think that we'll be able to run on the Colts like the Jags did. I think we'll be able to get some pressure on Manning. I think that's a very winnable game for us.

Beyond that, I think we can beat the Dolphins and I think we can beat the Lions. Although we're going to have to concentrate and play our hearts out in both games.

I think it's WAY too early to panic.
 
Well, I didn't get to see the game today due to being at work, but I must say I think everyone needs to calm down. We knew the 1st 5 games (now 4) were going to be tough. We have a very young team on both sides of the ball, but I think as the season goes on we will see improvement.

I was impressed with Slaton today (saw some highlights) and wondered if some of the O-line may be getting use to the ZB scheme. 146 Net Rushing Yards isn't bad against this stout defense and I think Slaton was the 1st RB to gain a 100 yards against them so far this year. If this O-line is starting to gel the way we all hoped they would that could bode well for the team in the games ahead. Now, if Schaub and AJ can get on the same page and the Defense step up, we'd have a pretty good team. I just think it's going to take a little more time for everything to come together. So, like markbeth suggests, relax!
 
We have a QB that that is making terrible decisions (17-of-37 for 188 yards, and his rating was 27.8.), a offensive line that cant pass block yet (gave up 3sacks, lots of hurries and knockdowns), a TE that never catches anything but screen passes, an OC that has no experience and no imagination, a defensive front seven that cant get pressure on the QB (except Mario), cant stop the run, OLB's that cant tackle, cover or rush the passer, a horrible secondary, a DC whose poor scheme cant make up for our lack of talent and to top it of a head coach who relies to much on his coordinators. Did I mention the blocking on our return teams is as bad as I have ever seen? Thats right as bad as ever and I have been watching football for along time.


Trust me its time to panic!

The Colts and Jags are injured and are not the powerhouses that they were last year.

The Jags have Del Rio as the coach and remember that we swept that team two years ago. Their offensive line is not good. They were able to run on the Colts because the Colts weren't tackling. If we tackle, we can shut down their run. And Garrard is not the QB he was last year. He's already thrown more interceptions than he threw all last year. And their defense isn't as stout as it was last year. That's a winnable game.

The Colts are especially susceptible to the run, they're not tackling, and I think that Slaton is going to be able to light them up. I think that Schaub or Sage will be able to throw on them and use the play-action pass that they're both very good at. I don't expect another bad game from AJ. The Colts offense is not very efficient this year. That's a winnable game.

It's easy to look past teams like the Fins and the Lions but those teams are going to have their backs against the walls and they're going to be desperate. HISTORICALLY, we screw up those "easy" wins. So... we need to play our hearts out in those games. We can't let them slip through our fingers by assuming that we're going to win them. So, that's why I said what I said. We have to play our hearts out against those guys, too. Just like they were the Cowboys or the Steelers or the Eagles.

We have to come to play EVERY game.
 
I did see a few positives out of this game. Here's my top 10:

1) We were still "in" the game almost the whole way through. I didn't really feel the game was totally lost until right at the end. If nothing else, this was a bit of an improvement over the Pittsburgh game. Plus, I can point to just a few plays that could have totally turned the game around.
2) Slaton looked OK, at least to the point I think we've got one part of an RB tandem in place. This is encouraging
3) Jacoby Jones didn't fumble.
4) I don't think we had any major injuries (didn't hear the final word on Bennett).
5) Pittman's bad snaps mean we might have a new roster space open soon (I hope Dreesen is good), and some of our best signings in the past have been mid-season pickups.
6) Mario and Demeco didn't play badly, as far as I could tell.
7) After the disastrous play of the first quarter, the team improved a bit later in the game.
8) I don't think our CBs not named Reeves got burned too badly.
9) Our CB named Reeves actually got an interception before trying hard to make us forget about that one nice play.
10) Kris Brown did a nice job kicking field goals.

-Not like the POWERHOUSE that we were last year?

-What was their record against us LAST year? I'm sure they were worried about 2 years ago.

-5 INTs in 2 games

-Did we not have heart or were we overmatched

I am a believer just like everyone else. I did not expect to come flying out of the gate but we need to play well before we can dismiss teams like the Jags and Colts as easy wins. We don't have the best divisional record the last couple years
 
i'm with you to a point..... we have played 2 (would've been 3 had we played baltimore) of the top defenses in the nfl & this is only our 2nd game, on the road no less all of this needs to be taken into account. Much of how we've looked can be attributed to these things... i estimate about 35%. Unfortunately, from what i'm seeing, most of our ineptness can be attributed to us.....we're just looking terribly out of sync on both sides of the ball.

between the dropped passes, questionable throws, suspect playcalling & coaching we've just been terrible.... & we have no one to blame but ourselves for that.

we all know that we don't have the best talent out there & when you have such a deficit like that, the coaching has to be able to make up that gap....somewhat. Kubes & Smith are not, & in some instances, they're exacerbating our problems. I mean what the hell are we throwing to joel dressen for when we've got AJ,KW,OD & AD? why throw the ball on the 2 yd line 3 straight times instead of doing what was working for us & running the ball....or how about at least throwing off the play fake more at that point?

Why in the hell are you dropping our best pass rusher back in coverage mr. smith? I saw it several times yesterday. we already have trouble getting to the passer as it is & it's not like we facing the 2007 patriots. I mean what kind of sense does that make?

When we first saw the schedule, most of us were pissed at the NFL for screwing us with the most difficult schedule in the league. I remarked " Jerry Jones must have made it up, or something." Look at it. 4 out of first 5 are playoff teams. 3 of which were supposed to be played on the road. After Hurricane Ike we have to play them in a row. Our first home game isnt until October!!!. Some teams will have played 2 or even 3 home games by the time we play our first. Now the schedule shakes out that we will play the first 4 games against playoff teams. Not an easy start. If the Texans win 1 of the next two we should be fine. They need to dominate at home and go on a really long winning streak at home. Relax take a deep breath and step down of the ledge.

we're not advancing towards the ledge b/c we were expecting to win those games...we doing it b/c we've looked awful & incapable of beating anyone at this point. Some of it is due to circumstances beyond our control sure, but be honest, we couldn't even beat the little giants right now the way we're playing & coaching.
 
The Titans were every bit as bad as we were in 2004 when they finished BEHIND us with a record of 5-11. Fast fwd to today and they are a dominant team that may win our division this season and we look like the Arizona Cardinals of the 90's still.

Light training camp to avoid injuries with 80 man rosters (and not much work for an AJ coming off of injury).

Not a snap against TB.
Crushing by Steelers on the road.
A miserable off week.
An out of sync team against the Titans.

Who knows, maybe they could have got their feet under them at home against the Ravens? The Texans have been a much better home team and sometimes it takes a bit of time to have things click more.

The funny thing is that we never know what would have happened in alternative histories.

I agree on the home game and I thought one less game would hurt us but then saw the Ravens beat the Browns fairly easily . I know the Browns are'nt the Titans but at the end of the day we are what our record and play indicate .

I guess that is my point. Nothing is ever a given with this team and you never know what we will look like from one week to the other. Judging on 2 poor performing games, I would put my money on not doing so hot during the in between, albeit pretend, week.

If we are going to see a game or two more of this slow start then I am okay bye week on the 2nd week as it gives our team putting their best feet forward in line for wins in the middle of the schedule. But please let's don't kid ourselves because this team has shown consistent play the last two times they took the field.

So I reiterate my point, we could be looking at the bad end of a three game slow start and right now we are only out two.

Still in for the long haul, Go Texans.

It would be nice to be able to file for bankruptcy and start over. Starting with the front office and coaching staff.

I agree but the titans didn't put us away until late and had we not looked like a jv squad out there we could have pulled out the win. It all goes back to the bad "no challenge" on the long pass by Collins that led to the "td" by Lendale White (he probably would have scored on the next play by I didn't see any breaking of the plane) but that pass was the nail in the coffin. Well that and the fact that we had 1st and Goal on the 1 and couldn't stick it in. The wheels came off today and it was still within reach for a long time. I do agree they are looking like they could be the dominant team overall, but it's early. If by some way, some how we can pull out the next two games and be 2-1 in the division then things could be a lot brighter, but that is going to be a tough row to hoe.

that's right there with THIS stat.

1st and Goal from the 4 (we had this TWICE in this game). TOTAL points = 3.

I'm a purebred Kubiak homer who dearly likes the man & his philosophy, but I put this loss SQUARELY on HIS shoulders. Poor clock management and poor play selection are HIS responsibility.

Take the two gimme FGs and the Texans are down 6 with plenty of time to play and a somewhat revived defense. (Please don't bring up the prior bad snaps - they shouldn't be a 'real' consideration)

Yeah, Schaub had a LOUSY day, but I'd put him as #2 reason for this loss. (AJ DID drop a 'certain' TD on him) We'll never know how Sage might've performed yesterday. So, other than knowing that Sage certainly looks better when OUT of the pocket we'll just have to keep wringing our hands on that one.

It's not time for outright PANIC yet, but yeah WORRYING is definitely in order!

Thats what I was thinking. Just throw us in on the bailout plan.

I think the Texans are doomed for years. Free agents dont want to come to a non contender where careers die. Rookies IMO dread coming here because they make less of an impact than they would on a successful team, causing them to lose millions in the open market after their rookie deal. Just imagine what Slaton would be doing on the Eagles or Cowboys. Rookie of the year consideration. But on the Texans he will be lucky enought to have his knee's after 3 years of the Texans.

Just to be a little ridiculous Vinnny, lets do a "player redistribution" (a form of wealth redistribution), ie take good players from the better performing teams and give them to the worse performing teams.

So, lets see, I will take Jared Allen to play opposite Mario, Lance Briggs and Patrick Willis to join Meco at LB, Marcus Trufant and Champ Baily to be our CBs, Joe Thomas at LT, Marcus McNeil at RT, Faneca at OG, Addai as RB, and Reggie Wayne as Wr#1a.

Yeah, even YKW could coach this team to a superbowl!
 
I think the problem is not the losing to two so-called tough teams on the road, but not really putting up a challenge in either game with a QB and coaching staff that look overmatched when playing legitimate NFL competition.

It makes no sense. It feels like Smith is hoping the other team will be stunned by his clever, brilliant, unexpected idea and just give up, not knowing how to deal with such a unique situation.
