The Non-Rivalry Game, Part IV

Picks

Quote:
The Dallas Cowboys have used a newfound commitment to the running game to fuel an impressive start.

The Houston Texans are hoping to reignite their own rushing attack to help relieve their playmaking defense.

Coming off another outstanding performance, DeMarco Murray looks to lead Dallas to a fourth straight win Sunday against the visiting Texans.

The Cowboys (3-1) are off to their best start in six seasons behind the NFL's best rushing attack, averaging 165.0 yards per game. Murray leads the league with 534 yards and five TDs, joining Jim Brown, O.J. Simpson and Emmitt Smith as the only players with at least 100 yards and at least one TD in each of his first four games. Brown did it in a record six straight in 1958.

The Texans (3-1) have been leaning heavily on an opportunistic defense, which is tied for the league lead with nine takeaways. J.J. Watt returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown to put them ahead in Sunday's 23-17 win over Buffalo and recorded a career-high nine quarterback hits.

Houston hasn't necessarily been dominant against the run, however, giving up 130.3 yards a game - making offensive improvement especially paramount.
Quote:
What I want to see:

Make Dallas uncomfortable on offense....

So easy to say, yet that's the way to beat these guys. Dallas is thriving on their play-action game quite a bit. Moreover, their run game is what makes this offense go. If they can be taken out of their comfort zone, and pass far too much, this could be a good day for the defense.

...but part of that discomfort is getting pressure on Romo...

While Dallas sports a top offensive line, the Texans still have to make it hard on the passing game of the high-octane Cowboys. Romo is not as fleet a foot as he once was, so having their best day of the season rushing the passer is very, very key Sunday afternoon.

...not to mention, keeping Dallas's offense off the field.

Whether it's Arian, or Blue, or both, the Texans run game must give Dallas issues defensively. Opening up the pass game is one thing, but owning T.O.P. is so very important vs. a team that wants to put up big points and run you out of their building. Run the rock right at them.

Win the turnover battle!!

It's rather simple here. Texans record when they are on the plus side of the TO battle: 3-0. When they are not: 0-1. The rocket science is not very strong with this one.
Well, folks; here we are! After 6 days of back and forth with you Cowboy peers (some of you, I'm sure), we have a game tomorrow! How about this? Texans get this W, go to 4-1, and get ready for Indy on Thursday? Sound good, fam? Y'all know the rules, as nothing has changed; 1-0 every week! Time to show these Dallas boys what we got. LET'S MUTHA****IN' GO, TEXANS!!!

Best scenario - Texans win both the Sunday and Thursday games with no major injuries.

Next Best - Texans Lose Sunday and Win Thursday.

Next - Texans Win Sunday and Lose Thursday.

Worse - Texans lose both games.

Worst - Texans lose both games and get injuries to key players.

As for my prediction? I've got no clue. But expectations have been a very poor predictor of winners this season.

That's the way I see it. If we stop Dallas on a couple of third downs, even if they're gaining 6 ypc, Jason Garrett will panic & put the ball in Romo's hands... then we got them.

Scared as hell of DeMarco Murray here.

Gotta force some turnovers in this one.

I'd like to hear an explanation of the rules that results in it not be permissible for any game to play anywhere much less in the entire state of New Jersey.

Tough sledding for the Texans today unless the Cowboys have one of those 3-5 INT games Romo sometimes has for no apparent reason. Be that as it may, even if we were to win, all you would hear all week is "What's wrong with the Cowboys" not "Texans beat Cowboys".

Our secondary and LBs have accounted for the major part of the tackles......tackles usually well beyond the LOS. I know that Romeo's system is set up for the DL to tie up the O for the LBs, etc, to make the plays. But you expect that they would still be significant contributors to tackles near the LOS. The only Dlineman with any such real contributions has been Watt.

If Murray is to be stopped while containing Romo, the DL AS A WHOLE must play at a much higher level than they have been.

I haven't read anything to give me more of a reason to believe we'll win this game, but that's not going to stop me from getting drunk and being the sole raving lunatic from Houston in a family chicken wing franchise packed with Cowgirls fans. Win or lose, I fully expect to have my nose busted (again) by 4:30

LET'S GO TEXANS, WHOOP THAT CANDY AZZ!

(...too pumped...)

Texans fans invade Dealey Plaza...

Determined not to bring the JerryBola virus back to Houston.

Quote:
Carl Mauck, former Oiler...did somebody say Cowboys?

"I hate their guts," said Mauck, who opens an interview yelling and is at full roar by the end. "I hate every damn day that I hear anything about them."
...

"[Jimmy] Johnson gave (Jones) three Super Bowls. But that wasn't enough for him," said Mauck, referring to Dallas' 1992-93 titles and a 1995 Lombardi trophy won with Barry Switzer at the helm. "(Jones) wanted to be the general manager. He wanted to be the big shot. Jerry Jones can make money, but he ain't no football guy - he'll never be a football guy."

During the 1977 preseason, Mauck became so fed up with the saturation of the Star in Houston that he spent a post-victory interview saying he would gladly help geographically confused Cowboys fans relocate from the Bayou City to that other city up north. Then he took to the airwaves to strengthen his sermon.

"All you people that love them, I've got a buddy here that will move you up there at a great price," Mauck recalled saying. "Why don't you just move up there if you love them so much?"
