Question New Consultant Questions

How does this process work?
Does he make a list of recomendations to McNair and he and Smith will interview?
Does he vet a list that McNair and Smith provide?
Does the inclusion of a consultant mean that McNair does not trust Smith with the decision?
All of the above?

McNair used the same consultant in his HC search in 2006. Jed Hughes is very highly regarded amongst NFL executives/owners.

As to how it works, I'd guess a little bit of all of the above.

Dunno.

I assume he comes up with a list of candidates, vets them, and then discusses the list with McNair and Smith.

Well.

Except for the list of GMs. I think he'll only discuss that with McNair... (hope hope hope)...

From what I've heard, the consultant is recommending coaches for McNair to interview. Think McClain said it but I'm really not sure. Everything is pure speculation at this point though.

If you have to hire a consultant then you haven't been paying attention.

There's that logic again that has no place here.

That's the most asinine statement of the day. You hire a consultant because they specialize in what they do. You prefer McNair hop on Madden and check out ratings? SMH.

we can win with Carr...find a coach that will tell me that. Let's also bring in Dan Reeves and see if there is another 'we love the 80's' offensive mind out there too.

Lol. Nonsense. You hire an executive recruiter/consultant to find and vet candidates, especially in competitive industries. That way, by the time this person sits down with McNair and Smith, all the background work will be competed, and the decision-makers can move quickly, if they feel they've found the right person.

This will also nip the "good 'ol boy" system in the bud! Hopefully.

Well, not necessarily. They could still decide to only hire a candidate who is "like them."

The Texans have hired noted consultant Jed Hughes to lead their search. Rapoport reported that Houston is not going to hire a coach immediately because a handful of coordinators with playoff-bound teams are on the team's radar.

The Texans are looking for a veteran NFL coach with a track record of experience. Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio -- who impressed as Denver's interim coach -- and former Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, now offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers, fit the mold, per Rapoport.

Another name to keep an eye on: Rapoport was told that Kevin Sumlin will receive attention from Houston brass. The Texas A&M coach recently agreed to a six-year deal with the Aggies, but he hasn't officially signed it."

Strange stuff. Btw, the Texans and Jags both went 5-11 in the year (2003) that incident took place. Interesting tiny footnotes of history.

It's the same consultant....

Insanity - Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

McNair was pizzing and moaning about losing to the Jags twice. McNair was pizzing and moaning because Keenum was benched for Schaub. If you watched the game you know that with Keenum's play the Texans had no chance of winning. Schaub gave them the best chance to keep from losing to the Jags twice. Based on MCNair's logic, Kubiak was right and Bob is wrong. Can't have it both ways Bob. Insanity, no common sense and an absence of logic has run amok in the Houston Texans front office. This is not going to end well. Lovie Smith is likely the new head coach and Jay Cutler the QB. The Texans are changing their name to the Houston Retreads, Home of the Average and Ordinary.
