The Titans had little choice but to invest heavily in receivers during the April draft. Faced with salary cap woes, they cut Derrick Mason despite a career-best season with 96 catches for 1,166 yards, and chose not to keep former draft picks Eddie Berlin and Darrell Hill.

They took Roby, Indiana's all-time leading receiver who ran a 4.33 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, with the 68th overall pick. Later in the third round, they selected Oklahoma's Jones, a talented athlete who turned down the New York Yankees to play football with his 4.45 speed and a 36-inch vertical leap.

Williams, of Tulane, was taken with the 136th pick. He set the Conference USA record for touchdowns receiving with 35 and ran a 4.48 in the 40.

The Titans have Drew Bennett replacing Mason and Tyrone Calico, a second-rounder in 2003, as the other starter. Jones has been working opposite Bennett until Calico returns from left knee surgery, but all three know they must play this season.

Whats the deal with the nickname for them? Some people are too eager to give a nickname to everything in a football uniform.

"Haha, there are 3 off you. We should give you a clever nickname, becuase there are 3 of you guys. Thats sooo crazy. I think a cool nickname is in order!"

The three amigos were the Elway's targets in the 80's (Vance Johnson, Mark Jackson, and Ricky Nattiel). People love to recycle nicknames. Originality is usually not synonymous with being a football fan.

Tell me about it. Does a month go by when someone isn't starting a thread in the Texans forum asking what the nickname for the offense, the defense, the stadium, the quarterback, the field inside the stadium, the kicker, or their parking spot in the yellow lot should be. It gets old and there are few things in this world weaker than a contrived nickname. Every time someone starts one of those threads I get this great surge of hatred go through me.

Nicknames come naturally from nowhere. They're mythical and if you try to make one then you suck and so does your nickname for whatever it was you were trying to describe. That's just the way the rule works.

Two things I know for sure.
1. Don't use a previous nickname
2. Don't make your own nickname

Three Amigos sounded odd. Maybe the three stooges. oops that was taken also.
