I've seen Joe Flacco's contract discussed and most not so much flattering but these guy's lay it on the line with a pretty good argument/presentation.
What you guys/gals think? I thought it was a pretty compelling argument personally.

The column is a shot in the dark- one doesn't need a made up stat to see that Flacco's regular season was different than his post-season.
Maybe its because I am a fan of the Ravens, but I cannot understand the lack of respect for Joe as a QB around the league. Des he throw for 5000 yds? No. Does he throw for 50 touchdowns? No. Does he win? Yes. The whole "luck" thing is pretty weak argument also; was it lucky when Montana trew a ball high in the endzone and Dwight Clark caught it? Was it luck when Rothlisberger tripped up the Colt player afer Bettis fumbled vs Indy in te playoff game? Wasit luck when Franco Harris caught the deflection for the "Immaculate Reception"? As Sam Snead once said, "I'd rather be lucky than good" |

Your team was good (and incredibly lucky) and won the big one dude, but the post Superbowl jubilation (and obvious drug binge) that made your front office think that Flacco is worth more than Both Manning Brothers, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers AND Tom Brady will bite such a huge chunk out of your team's butt this upcomming season I'd be surprised if they MAKE the playoffs.

Its a three year deal- disregard all the pomp and circumstance about 'highest contract in league history'....all that money that Schaub is getting and he has the same amount of wins as TJ Yates in the postseason? As far as 'my front office' goes, there is a reason Ozzie Newsome has been in his job for 18 yrs, only Jerry Jones has a longer tenure than Ozzie as GM and you see how that has worked out for JJ in Dallas, making decisions no one else wanted make. Questioning Ozzie is a cry for help.... |

Make or break year for the ravens draft IMO .
Birk and Lewis retired. Bouldin has been told that he will be cut if he doesn't take a pay cut. Bouldin said he would retire if he is cut. Bobbie Williams was cut. Good new is Ed Reed said he will be back Lots of key people to replace. The ravens will need "playoff Flacco" during the regular season more than ever. "regular season" Flacco needs to keep away from the field.

If you can't understand it, then it's out of homerism and that's all I can really give you to help you understand. Did Flacco step his game up to the next level in the post season? Definitely. Does one post season make him elite? Hell no. Only NFL newb fans and the classic folks that are prisoners of the moment will buy into that. Flacco has never been a top tier QB in the NFL. Maybe his post season run was the start of big things to come and him jumping into that next tier, but as of right now one post season does not indicate that. It indicates the potential for it to happen, but that is all for now. Flacco has been slightly above average for the most part though. No one in their right mind would have called him elite before the post season, so to even insinuate it now after 4 games of great play is pretty over the top. This whole idea that Flacco is this great winner isn't exactly true either when he went to a winning team from the start and his team was pretty much winning in spite of Flacco for years instead of because of Flacco. Most Steeler fans laughed for years at the Ravens because they were only getting the best of them mainly because of the difference in QB's between Flacco and Big Ben. The only reason I think you are having a hard time understanding this is because you're a die hard Ravens fan, and that 'art is pretty obvious to me. |

Trying to use Flacco's playoff record as some sort of huge measuring stick for him is about as silly as someone trying to act like Trent Dilfer was some sort of top tier QB because he happened to play on a team that won a SB. |

#2- Flacco came into team that had gone 5-11 the previous year. He was the third option to start the seasn due to injury. Defense was still good, and he made alot of plays along the way to the AFC Championship game- hich they still could have won of not fr afew dropped passes (foreshadowing). Joe won some games in th early years but he never lost the game fr them. The last three years has been winning alot of games for the Ravens. #3-I have never cared about the elite thing or "Joe should be ranked in thetop 5 of QB's"- I do dislike the lack of respect around the league that is shown towards a guy who just wins. He is consistenly ranked below people who a big stat churners in the reg seasn and fold in the post-season: Romo, Ryan, Schaub, Stafford, Bradford, Rivers, etc... Homerism is why I rarely post on Ravens boards- its very evident on evey fan message board; its a trait I do not possess. But I will defend my player when I believe he has been wrongly characterized. |

Your statement is akin to me saying its all Foster, not AJ or Schaub or defense. Or any combination of the tree vs the fourth. |
