Hugely underrated. Absolute steal that could be grabbed in the 6-udfa. I have posted a couple of times about this kid already. |

He won a majority of his blocks, including a couple against Jeffcoat. He never got beat badly, but he did fail to connect on a few second-level block. It looks more likely due to the blocking scheme calling for him to approach the defenders at certain angle, but the defenders went against the grain. That doesn't hurt the play much. He looked very comfortable with the cut block and was strong in-line. I have about 5 more games (from 2010 to 2012) I can watch. Too bad, none of those games feature him as a pass catcher so it might be difficult to evaluate that part of his game. He did have 33 catches for a nice average per catch and 5 TDs as a sophomore, and his performance in catching drills at his pro day should lighten up that concern. In the UT game, he was used mainly as a blocker in the triple pistol option. I saw him run a shallow crossing route (and was open, due to scheme) and a wheel route (with he defender play back) so I really can't tell about his route running ability. Hopefully, I'll see some of that when I get to the other games. |

Lamar "Flash" Thomas ran a 4.36 forty... Evan Jacobsen bested his weight lifting numbers. Lucas Reed's brother Brooks (Houston Texans) and his pops were out there as Lucas had a superb Pro Day. Unfortunately Lucas had 10 of his reps on weight lifting not count due to not locking out his arms, he is working to see if they can do it again... Ugo Uzodinma cut off his dread locks and looked like a huge beast with some wheels, was really impressed. Freddy Young also performed well... The scouts that were out there were from the Buffalo Bills, Arizona Cardinals, and Green Bay Packers... As well as a representative for the B.C. Lions of the CFL. I was able to look over some shoulders and see some of the notes on players. Interest obviously in... Flash, Lucas, and Evan... Also saw Ugo and Korian Chambers mentioned... At the end Freddy Young getting some interest as well... ========= Not sure if any of these young men will be drafted... I think the biggest chance would be Lucas Reed and Flash... Evan Jacobsen maybe, but he is a specialist and for sure all 3 will get invites to camps... ... Lucas got to re-test on the bench and got 25 reps. 25 reps on the bench after already doing 27 about an hour and a half ago, and running like a fool in between is pretty impressive! Proday video: http://youtu.be/yEvNZ0bP7ts http://www.draftinsider.net/blog/?p=6811 "Both Lucas Reed and Lamar Thomas carried the momentum of the day and after some terrific marks in testing, each stood out in pass catching drills. Reed’s forty time of 4.68s would have ranked as top five at the combine. His short shuttle time (4.08s) was by far the best of any tight end who ran at the combine. Reed caught the ball well during the practice session, snatching several fast passes out of the air and displaying consistent hands. For his part Lamar Thomas also looked good. After running 4.35s in the forty Thomas was exceptional in pass catching drills. He ran terrific routes, displayed soft hands and really impressed those on hand. Reed will be a last day pick while Thomas will surely find his way into a camp. As mentioned earlier, with weapons at their disposal such as Reed and Thomas, scouts at the pro-day wondered aloud why New Mexico did not throw the ball more in 2012." In answer we ran an offense that really did not emphasize tight ends but passed quite a bit on bubble/isolation screens. The offense was pitiful under locksley's tenure and much more run oriented under Bob Davie. Kid can inline block but is better at reaching defenders at the second level. Built kind of lean to be an powerful drive blocker but has long arms and can reach and wall off defenders at the second level. IMO, more of a pass weapon but has a world of experience as a run blocker. Very smooth athlete. And it does not appear the texans were in attendance. |

UNM 2010 season highlights. Lucas is #97.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irXbLvjtygA All MWC TE in 2010, Two time John Mackey award candidate, John Mackey TE of the week---November 06 2010. Two time All American, 3rd team as a Freshman, and 2nd team as a Sophomore (also Honorable Mention over all TE by Scout--CFN) SC top ten play of the MONTH for November 2010. Kid's problem has not been being able to play. Kid's problem has been OC's and terrible coaching. |

To be honest, I don't remember much of anything since we've been talking about too many players. Coulda been you; coulda been that I just look him up by chance. He wasn't on my radar, that's for sure.

Interviewing Reed isn't necessary if his brother already vouches for him.

Surprise, surprise -- QB Geno Smith is climbing boards after a good pro day. If you want him, you better get into the top 10 now.
The more QBs drafted high, the better for the Texans. |
