Wow that's a steep price for a guy that would likely have been cut. I think the chiefs overpaid but if he turns out to be good then good for kc. I don't put it all on smith for being inconsistent since he's had way too many offensive coordinators prior to the harbaugh era.

Sounds about right to me. It's a market driven price. If you don't have a QB you will over pay for a guy who is an upgrade to what you have. Smith can play in a wco. Reid will have tons of 3-5 step drops and the Chiefs have a good running game. He doesn't need a big arm in this system and is athletic enough to scamper when needed. When you can't get ideal, you get real. I think they figured they could stay with the status quo and have another year of bad quarterbacking, bring in a rookie and take another year of beatings and rookie mistakes, or trade for Smith and quite possibly contend for the playoffs next season. The Chiefs have quite a bit of talent...they just need a QB. Smith is their Schaub.

Chiefs lost HARD here.
In no way do you trade a 2nd for this dude. I couldn't do it. Seems like a massive reach for a quick fix that AIN'T about to happen. They are about to win the West? Get a wild card? "Oh, we got a vet, so we won't lose more than 9 games!" Congrats, Kansas City.

I honestly don't see a whole lot of difference between KC & the Houston Texans. They look like they've got all the pieces needed to be a winning club, but they've underachieved for one reason or another. I think it will be very interesting to see what happens there after changing QB & HC & GM again.

Should've have looked to see if the 'Hawks were willing to shop Matt Flynn. Flynn's got more upside than Alex Smith. Conversely, with Smith, at least you know what you're paying for.

I'm sort of in the Vinny camp here. I think if anything, the Chiefs got the better end of the deal in terms of value.
Starting quality QB's don't grow on trees. They have a certain value. I think the Chiefs ultimately are declared the victors in this trade. I also don't get the AS hate in here. Sure, he isn't Tom Brady. Name a QB that is readily available via any method that is better today than Alex Smith is? He has actually made me a believer and I think Reid has his starter for the next 5-8 yrs and he can win with him. Like Schaub, he is a piece not a franchise QB. But all in all, I like this and the Chiefs just became a contender in my eyes.
