Earlier in the week, one of our threads branched into a discussion on OL blocking schemes, especially the new zone blocking scheme the Texans are
using. Here's a link to an interesting and informative article about the subject. According to this source, under line coach Pendry, the Texans don't employ the cut block technique and the author says that may be a mistake. **************** "For the record, Joe Pendry claims that his zone blocking scheme doesn’t rely on cut blocks. Given Davis’s performance, he might want to reconsider that stance." http://www.footballoutsiders.com/ram...?p=2484&cat=11 |

Zone blocking has been very popular at the Pro and the Collegiate level over the last couple of years. When the O-line is on the same page and everyone makes the proper reads, it is damn near impossible to stop.
The problem is that it takes longer for an O-line to gel and to come together with this scheme. They'll need to know where their O-line mates are at all times and have confidence that the other guys will be where they're supposed to be at exactly the right times or the scheme blows up. The zone blocking scheme also goes away from the line up and beat the guy in front of you mentality. Lots of coordination and thinking involved. We'll see how our O-line continues to develop and play over the year. I'm disappointed we didn't make a more concerted effort to improveon the O-line this off season, and I'm afraid that the ramifications may come back to haunt us when the regular season begins. We'll just have to see whether the Texans O-line puts it all together this year or not. Go Texans |

“He can play every down,” Casserly said. “The guy has really good instincts. He has good quickness, good change of direction and good vision as a runner.”
http://www.vernandmorency.com/ I dunno....Morency could be even more of a fit for our zone blocking scheme than DD ? |
