333 invitations have been extended to college prospects to attend the NFL Combine later this month.
The NFL Scouting Combine will be held February 20 – 26, 2013.
The positional breakdown is as follows:
Quarterback: 16
Running Back: 38
Wide Receiver: 39
Tight Ends: 19
Offensive Line: 58
Defensive Line: 54
Linebackers: 35
Defensive Backs: 60
Kickers/Special Teams: 14

Do they invite the same number of players every year, 333, or does it change? Also any idea how they determine who to invite, the early round guys are obvious but there has to be a cut off for the later round guys, just wondering how they make that determination?

In a typical year, there are about 335 invited players. About 250 invitations are sent before bowl games are completed to those who have completed their seasons. However, underclassmen have until mid-January to confirm their draft status. Invitations are made to those receiving supermajority support from the selection committee.

Thanks srrono for the info. and links. I can't wait for the early March mocks that come out based on a better understanding of player rankings and Combine times. There's going to be lots of players who rise and fall due to the Combine.

Harvard FB / TE Kyle Juszckzy was a standout out player durring Senior Bowl week . I would like to see him in a Texans uniform as a FB.

A little surprised Bama TE Michael Williams didn't get an invite. Pretty much a blocking TE, but I thought he showed that he could be serviceable around the goal line in the Senior Bowl.

This dude killed us in the FCS Semis in the second half. 200+ yards and 3 TDs.

Vince Williams ILB Florida State was not invited either. I would love for us to draft him late or pick him up as a ufa. He would make a good FB too.
