The Chicago Bears have hired Marc Trestman as their head coach, the Chicago Tribune reported late Tuesday, citing an NFL source.

Trestman comes from the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League, where he won two Grey Cup championships in five years as head coach. He replaces Lovie Smith, who was fired by the Bears last month.

Trestman, 57, has been an assistant coach for several NFL teams, including the Oakland Raiders, Arizona Cardinals and Detroit Lions, but has never been an NFL head coach. Trestman was the offensive coordinator for the Raiders in 2002, when they reached Super Bowl XXXVII and quarterback Rich Gannon was named NFL MVP.
