Defensive end Gary Walker left the afternoon practice early with a pulled hamstring. He’s expected to have a precautionary MRI this evening.

Come on! Tell me this is nothing! Is this guy going to earn his money or just have nagging injuries the entire time? :brickwall

I'm loving our first round pick now.

Lets just hope it a minor injury. TJ will get his chance, but I don't think he needs to start on day 1.

Calm down. Training camp hasn't even started and there's no reason for a starter to practice knicked up. A precautionary MRI is just that, precautionary. He's going to be fine.

Knicked up is one thing, pulling a hamstring is different.

Is this the same injury he had in the past or was that his groin?

I'm all for starting the guy on day 1, just like we started D-Rob & Babin
on day 1 last year. If we started 2 rookies last year, why not start just
1 this year. Let Walker be the reserve, if he ever heals up from this latest
injury.

i agree plus it will be better for us now and in the future IMO. IJ shows desire to play that GW hasnt showed in years.

i'm sure the injury's will turn out to be nothing. Im sure they usually practice in those conditions but no need for them too so early before TC.

That's ridiculous. This injury thing doesn't look like much to me. Besides, it's June and nobody schedules games in July either.

i'm saying when he has played in the last 2 years he hasnt showed competitive drive like in 02.

I'm not saying this injury is going to last till the season opener, or even training camp. However, I am saying that Mr. Walker is showing a pattern of being injured.

It's only June and he's hurt, to what degree, we don't know, but we do know it's not the first, or the second time he's been hurt. We also know a hamstring can linger on, sometimes doesn't heal to 100% without full rest, and can pop back up after it has happened.

Cause for concern, I think so, but like others have said, maybe putting TJ in from the start isn't such a bad thing.

Walker has played in 144 games in his 10 year career. Other than the '03 injury that kept him out of all but 4 games, Walker has been a horse. Sure he's getting up there in age, but he's still an established veteran and still has some juice left. The DE position is his to lose right now and I dont think an early June hamstring injury is going to change that.

4 Million dollars is a lot of money to be paying someone for a reserve spot, especially to someone that was in the probowl three years ago.

What makes you think that? From what I've seen from him this offseason, he's in better shape physically than he ever has.
A pulled hamstring is a freak accident. Its not something that's planned.

Everyone needs to calm down. We still have 88 days till our season opener with the Bills.
He'll be fine, and I guarantee you he'll turn heads again this season.

Where do folks come up with this stuff? Years? Walker had a bad year last year (with injuries). Year before that he was basically out the entire time. How does that show a lack of desire? Did Terrell Owens show a lack of desire when his leg broke? or Mike Vick? Of course not. Last time Walker had a relatively injury free season he was a pro-bowler. Maybe (and maybe not) his body is starting to break down, but that has zero to do with him lacking desire.

Walker was excellent in our first year (making the Pro Bowl).

However...Walker hasn't been the same since the Texans subsequently rewarded him with that big contract. Funny how this happens to alot of players.

GW is on the decline...but its not always obvious because the entire front 7 has been been bad the past 2 years....and the defensive stats bear it out.

Older players get more nagging injuries generally...and GW is no exception.

we definetly shouldn't throw Johnson in there from the start. Why do that when you have good experienced players to play it, and for him to learn behind? The right solution would be for him to switch off with the guys and learn behind them, instead of throwing him to the wolves.

That has more to do with the injury he had the previous season, not because he fell into a financial 'comfort zone'. Sheesh ....
