Pardee was a helluva football man. And anyone who discounts the R&S he ran needs to look around the NFL. It's in use everywhere.

Just read this also. Very sad indeed. Jack is a good guy and was a great offensive mind. He was probably too nice to be an effective HC however he did manage to get the Oilers to the playoffs almost every season he was here.

Talk about a man who went somewhere with his career. Pardee started coaching 7's in schools too small to field a full team and finished in the NFL. Wow!

I still remember the total feeling of elation I felt the day that Pardee was announced as the HC of the Oilers. After the embarrassment that the Glanville era degenerated into (IMO), I had a genuine sense of pride that Pardee was now the coach of my team.

Still think the world of him.

Very sad. I loved the Gamblers, I still have my Gamblers baseball hat and some old ticket stubs.

Very sad.

Jack used to live down the street from me when I was in H.S. In fact, the neighborhood kids (myself included) used to play baseball and football in a field that backed-up to Pardee's horse corral. So, home runs were hit into his yard.

I'd only discount is as a pure offense where you do not carry a FB or TE so you severely limit your options. It cannot run out the clock to protect a lead, as we know all too well.

Hate to hear this news about Pardee.

I loved watching his teams' gunslinger-coached mentality. He will be missed.

As an aside, the article mentioned that he had extensive melanoma surgery/treatment. Then he had a recurrence of the melanoma 20 years later. It is interesting to note that, despite lack of true specifics of this new cancer incident, of all the tumors that can metastasize (spread) to the gallbladder (even many years later), melanoma is by far the most common, accounting for more than 50% of gallbladder metastases. It makes me think that this could possibly be the case with Pardee.

Jack Pardee, ex-Houston Oilers head coach, dies after battle with cancer

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Sad news for football fans in Houston. Eyewitness Sports has learned that former Houston Oilers and University of Houston coach Jack Pardee has died after a long battle with cancer.

I recently spoke with Pardee's friends and former teammates at Texas A&M and they told me he faced last year's diagnosis of terminal gall bladder cancer with the same traits that made him an All Pro NFL linebacker and successful head coach.
