Andrew Brandt @adbrandt
Talib is making $1.852M - $109,000 a week. Contract expires after this season. Nine week look-see. Cheap acquisition, but we'll see if it pays off. He sure is talented, but has knucklehead syndrome. |

Patriots try to win every year.....he's good...he's just a pothead that can't seem to wait till he retires. Houston area kid. This is going to make the Patriots tougher in the playoffs. We need to start looking at the playoff matchups more than divisional going forward really.

Very good pickup for the Pats. Belichick seems to get the most out of miscreants.

Yes, and he's got some kind of weird 6th sense when it comes to knowing when to then part with them.

Maybe the guy has glaucoma? He'd be happy to go to one of the Cali teams ha.

Sometimes Belichick gets a problem player and they succeed in his system. And other times they remain a problem and don't do a damn thing. He takes risks, thats for sure. Whether he's more successful than other coaches, I don't know

Randy Moss turned into a good pick-up for them too. Talib can play, better than anyone in that current secondary or since Asante Samuel.

Talib hasn't been that good here. He's far from a shutdown corner and when he isn't hurt he is getting suspended. He has 7 games left on his contract and the Bucs weren't going to bring him back. Basically it's just another failed high draft pick for the Bucs. They are just picking up a late 4th rounder and cutting their losses.

Its all well and good saying Haynesworth and Ocho-cinco didn't work out, but the Pats also didn't lose much in either case and hardly stand to lose anything here either.
It seems to me as if Bellicheck has a similar emphasis on high-character guys as we do, but after a point he's willing to put his faith in that set-up being able to carry, and possibly straighten out, the odd black sheep here and there. Its something I wouldn't mind seeing us try at some point, if some talent crops up on the cheap that fits our system but has serious issues/red flags take a low-risk gamble similar to what the Pats have done here and see if that setup we have of high-character team leaders right down to the backups can't pull the guy into line. As for Talib, dude's lucky to have a half-season trial with a good setup that could possibly lead him to a ring. He's certainly got plenty of talent but he needs to take that opportunity and knuckle down and focus on his play. It wasn't so long ago that the Pats were starting Antwaun Molden at the position so he has a chance to make an impression I'd imagine.

Yeah...big risk, possibly big reward...
4th round pick is not a huge pay out, but it's still a valuable pick. But if you are constantly taking chances like this odds are some of them will pay off. It doesn't wreck your team if you have a strong culture like the pats. Now if these moves were being made by the bengals it'd be a different story. They can afford any more pebbles on their wet paper towel psyche at this point. |
