One of the things we feel we do better than anyone, is assess offensive line play. We’re watching these maulers on the line getting to the second level, pancaking defensive linemen, and every so often getting beat. And we do it on every single play of every single game.

So as much as anyone can be qualified to rank offensive lines, we feel we’re up to the challenge. Thus, after seven weeks of NFL action, it’s time to unveil some offensive line rankings.

In a rather crude way we’re adding together the cumulative grades for every offensive linemen on a team to give a score for every team. With teams having played different numbers of games this number has been divided by how many games they’ve played to give an average score per game in each area.

Let’s start with the worst shall we?

PFF relies on one or two guys watching the plays to grade each lineman (and all players.) These individuals have to watch several games a week (not just our game), they have to watch a lot of different players at the same time, and they use personal judgments.

Here are a couple of different rankings by a couple of sites that base their result stritcly on stats. This approach takes out the human "errors".

The Texans came in third, behind the Pats and the Giants:

On the defensive side of the line, we also came in third.
And the Dolphins, a team I had mentioned previously as having the D-line as their strength, came in first.

Overall, the Texans was ranked first in the Power Ranking, by a good margin over the next four teams: Packers, Giants, Niners, and Falcons.
