I am sure there are some untested wrinkles in the defense that we've yet to see and I haven't seen Merciless too terribly much either, he should be fun to watch once he gets comfortable at this level. To be fair as well, they haven't faced a real high caliber offense so they haven't had to show some real exotic looks.
to the poster suggesting moving Watt. Umm he's looking pretty damn good right now where he's at, why change it? One thing I'd like them see is tighten up the rushing defense more after giving up a lot of yardage to a struggling CJ. |

You haven't seen that much chess movements of our D as when we were disguising things well during parts of last year. You will see that presnap perpetually moving D when we need to screw with the QBs' and O's minds to attain our ends. It will come when we face more elite O's.

IIRC, the Yates-Walter play in Cincy last year was something Kubiak had stashed away for a rainy day. Anybody here recall that?

The one game where we have done things a little different was the Broncos game, games get tougher we play a bit more expansively. Kubiak is king of just enough. Wait till Packers and Ravens, that will be interesting to see what we have.

Is Wade holding back? I surely hope so. To think it can get better is pretty sweet.

Can we break the points allowed in a single season record ???? At the pace we are at ?
the ravens record is 165 right now we have allowed 56, MOST of those to manning,,,,,hmm a few shut out or 3 point games and we could challenge that record.

I'll settle for the D holding the opponents to one less point than our offense can generate.

Is this thread because our OLB's have about 1.5 sacks in between the 3 top guys (Reed, Barwin, Mercilus)? I don't think Wade intended for JJ Watt and Antonio Smith to be the top two sack guys on the defense this year, but it's not as though the play of the DL hasn't been effective.
I haven't seen any breath taking blitzes or exotic stunts, but we have brought 5 or more enough times this season and I know they've done twists and stunts up front. One guy who hasn't rushed the passer as much as he did last year is Brian Cushing, and I wonder if it's because we all shudder at the thought of Bradie James in coverage on a TE.

Wade Phillips may be holding back, but let's not delude ourselves into thinking there haven't been drives where our D has looked like what it used to. Denver is easily the best team we've played so far this year, and a lot of us here felt pretty helpless during the attempted comeback.
If Schaub doesn't complete that out route with Andre, who knows how the game may have ended. Also, it won't matter if Wade opens the playbook if we don't develop that killer instinct on the offensive side of the ball. Contenders will make us pay for that, but that's an entirely different thread. |

Yes , that was the first time all year they ran that particular route combination. It was in the bag of tricks .... for when it was required.

Should have had 4 INT's in that game .... and that PI call was one of the worst Ive ever seen , Jackson had better position to make a play on the ball than the reciever did .... I wanted to kick that ref in the junk.

If I remember correctly, we ran a similar sort of thing a play or two before but with a different receiver as the primary read. When we saw how they were covering OD, they decided to do it again (slightly differently) knowing that if they got the same coverage, KW would break free.

He needs to come along slowly. Give him time to adjust to the speed of the game, the matchups, playbook etc. Think about how the Steelers and Giants do it: they allow young players with high potential to ease into their roles without overwhelming them. JPP was slowly eased into the lineup and look at him today. Same with Timmons.
