Okay, hear me out.

Yesterday, The Texans showed us they can do things that previous teams would have failed to do. They went into Denver, and beat the Broncos. Not just beat them, but destroyed them. Dominated up until the last few minutes of the 4th when Tate fumbled and gave Manning a short field. Even though Manning was on a run, We were still able to hold onto the ball long enough to get the win. We took everything that Denver could give us, and we gave them more. It was a win that set the tone for this season. Everyone played tough, including Matt Schaub. Dude went out, got his bell rung more than once, and kindly said "thank you sir, may I have another" Four touchdowns and a missing ear later, The Texans were on top and number one in the AFC.

That being said, We will really know what kind of team this is after next Sunday.

The majority of this board feels next week should be an easy victory over our division rivals. I am confident we will pick up the win, since Tennessee is not good at all. I think they have regressed from a year ago and they are lucky to get the win yesterday. That being said, this game could easily play the role of a trap game.

The hype in on our side, 3-0 for the first time in franchise history, coming off of a big win. The point is, if The Texans go in, and take care of business this Sunday, we will know what kind of team they are. A dominate one that doesn't get the traps. Even last year, we had a couple of trap games in there. Oakland, and Carolina. Both of those were at home.

I'm not playing the role of doubter here, and I am not predicting a loss. I just want to point out to this board, if we win, it will show the real progress this team has made.

Last week showed that we can fight.

This week will show if we can truly follow up and continue to take care of business.

This board needs a few permanent threads:

1. "Next week's game is a must win"
2. "Next week's game is the real test"

like the Joe's crabshack "Free crabs tomorrow" sign

I agree that next week's game is important, but what could you possibly see there that you havent over the first 3?

We know what type of team we have. We are more talented than Tennesse. Win or lose, Im not expecting to see anything that will change my opinions at this point in the season

Didn't we win enough games like this upcoming one with Tennessee last year for you to know what kind of a team we have? Really? As long as Matt is under center I have complete faith we are going to make life hard on whatever opponent we face. More likely than not its going to equate to a Texans win, also there is a good chance we blow them (or insert similar team) out.

How about the team maintaining its intensity and focus following a big road win and not having a mental/physical letdown against a perceived lesser opponent.

Thats awfully specific...

We took care of business at home agianst a perceived lesser opponent.
We took care of business on the road against a perceived lesser opponent.
We took care of business on the road against a tough opponent.

I just don't see why coming off the Denver win will have any impact on us at all.

I'm going to agree with you gt2 in that I have seen what I need to see. Barring injuries this team will continue to get better and barring injuries can beat any of the other 31. Can we lose? Of course, but so can any other team. I want to see Kubiak put the stranglehold on teams going forward. I now expect to win every game. I posted before 2011 we could do that and this season we have an even better chance.

this game is not a trap game if anything 2 weeks ago the texans knew this game would be more important then the denver game Denver is not in our Divison Tennesse is

and yes in a crazy SHootout somehow tenn beat the lions and arr 1-2

bottom line if we can beat the tacks we can put them in a early hole and pretty much not worry about our divison for about 10 weeks

I don't think the fans will allow them to take this game lightly. Reliant's going to be absolutely rockin. The players won't have a choice but to rise up and whoop that ass.

I think exorcising the demon that beating Peyton in his house represents is a special case.

Maybe you're right. Maybe that's the sign we've "turned the corner".

I honestly think we turned the corner last year, game 1. We're well on our way down the road

We need to step on them ..... hard. :pissed:

Mmmhmm. How you handle success is at least as important as how you handle failure. I've been watching football my entire life (like most of you) and I've lost count how many times I've seen teams follow a huge, emotional win like this with a week of being told they're great and then a flat performance in an "easy win" situation.

Yes, beating Miami and Jacksonville when they were expected to told us something about the Texans makeup.

Beating Denver on the road told us a little more.

Beating Tennessee at home the way they handled Miami and Jacksonville will tell us this team is level and focused. Getting good in the NFL isn't all that hard. Lots of good teams wrap up 5-11 to 8-8 records every year. Getting consistentently good is much harder. When you do that then you are on the road to Patriots territory where you don't run hot and cold all the time. You just come in and play your game every week no matter who it's against or where it's at. When we're there this is gonna get sweet.

I wouldn't say "bigger" test, just another test. We have to remain even-keil (sp?). Its a division game & those are always tough; Tennessee in particular will be riding high off of their upset win over Detroit & division games are always tough.

In the Denver game, we showed up with our A+ game & ended with our C game. Now, No team comes out with thier A-game every week...we just need to make sure that our C-game is good enough to hold off our opponent until our B+/A game arrives.

long story short, we need to learn how this 2012 team deals with adversity.

Don't know how much of a real test this week will end of being. I don't see our team allowing the Tacks to match our production or our D........especially after seeing how the injured and happless Lions managed to stay up so well and 35 points by the Tacks were given strictly through 5 red carpet treatments by the Lions.

Detroit Lions doomed by Tennessee Titans' big plays

The big play is the quickest way to swing a game and the easiest way to lose one defensively. Defensive coordinators preach it around the NFL on a daily basis.

The Detroit Lions gave up long touchdowns in every way conceivable Sunday during a 44-41 loss to the Tennessee Titans.

» Tommie Campbell had a 65-yard punt return off a Music City Miracle lateral.

» Jared Cook caught a 61-yard touchdown pass from Jake Locker. Tight end Jared Cook.

» Darius Reynaudshook loose for a 105-yard kickoff return.

» Nate Washington pulled a 71-yard touchdown pass off the back of cornerback Jacob Lacey.

» Alterraun Verner ripped the ball from Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew's hands and ran 72 yards for a touchdown.

That's a long score from each kicking phase, offense and defense. MLive.com's Anwar Richardson reported the Lions are the first team in league history to give up five touchdowns of 60-plus yards in one game, according to The Elias Sports Bureau.

"Can't give up big plays," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "You don't play good defense by giving up big plays, and also like I said, we kept drives alive with penalties. It's poor defense when you're giving up big plays and you're keeping drives alive with penalties."

It was a what-can-go-wrong-will-go-wrong day in the middle of a what-can-go-wrong-will-go-wrong season. Quarterback Matthew Stafford pulled up lame with a leg muscle strain after another subpar outing. Punter Ben Graham hurt his calf and Jason Hanson was forced into double-duty. It all overshadowed the fact that Mikel Leshoure (26 carries, 100 yards, one touchdown) had the best opening game of any Lions rusher since Billy Sims in 1980.

Great point and great article. Its exactly what I was mentioning yesterday. They did not sustain one long drive that resulted in a TD. All their touchdowns were special teams or long, (sometimes lucky) strikes

Guys I'm just as happy with the team as y'all are. And I feel we have gotten a good view of this team. My point is, this past victory was a big victory. I'm just really interested to see how this team will respond after a big win. I feel we will do good, I just feel it will truly show how good we are as a team and how we respond to games after the big win.

Some QBs can't pass well if made to stand in a pocket. Last year, Locker's good passes for good gains were always when he rolled out or scrambled to the edges.

I want to see us start wide and close the pocket like a noose around his head. I don't think he can stand there and pass well in that situation.

But I gonna watch the replay Tuesday to see if he's gotten better at throwing within a pocket.

The Texans going 4-0 to start the season is doable, most especially since it's the Titans. Frankly I'm beginning to think we might actually be 5-2 or 6-1 at the bye week. I originally predicted 4-3.

Exactly!

Sportscenter was on at lunch and their highlights came up. The entire time I kept mumbling Tuck the Fitans. My co-workers were laughing at me.

It's funny that the Tacks thru OT managed only 59 yds rushing. The Tacks' leading rusher was Locker........35 yds in 4 carries, with one of those carries accounting for 31 yds. The mighty CJ burned up the field with a total of 34 yds in 14 carries (longest 13) for an overwhelming 1.4 ypc. And we must not forget the magnanimous contribution of the Tacks' 3rd down specialist/true change of pace RB Darius Reynaud.......1 carry yielding a total of 0 yds.

No, this is not a team that is made to hold up with our Texans on either side of the ball.

Elite teams separate themselves from other teams by winning the close games and beating their division rivals. If after years and years of preaching about being ready to take your division rivals the most, he better not slack off on that mindset now that the team is actually good on both sides of the ball.

i agree relient NEEDS to be MUCCHHHH LOUDER compared to week 1 to me it was not loud at all week 1 iDK what it was maybe it was the first game maybe we didnt take the Phins serious

but this game is a important divison game to one of the main teams who will race with us for the divison ..well lets end that race right now and early

I hope relient is HAS loud and packed has ever !!!!!!!!!!! o and going 4-0 would be ooo so sweettt

Titans haven't been able to hold any opponent to under 34.:spin:

"HOLD THE FORT!!!"

This means the Texans will only score 35 against the Tinnbreds????? We're such slackers and Gary Kubiak sucks!!!!

At the very least, we don't have to worry about that legend out of UT winning this game and proclaiming Reliant as his "house"...... As I understand it, "his house" might be his next place of employment... It might be selling progreams, pretzels or even cotton candy... BUT yeah, "his house"!

The games against the Titans are always tough and physical games and I don't expect this game to be any different. They're coming off an impressive performance too, so I hope the Texans will be ready and be the aggressors on Sunday. Can't wait to hear the home crowd roar!

Absolutely! It's a division game, much more important than against Denver. We need this game :strangle:

man manning in a titans jersey IMO would be a lot more scary well 4 me anywayz

things might have been a lot more ........ down to the wire this season if he had choosed tennesse

In this division, I believe that if we sweep the division, we would make the playoffs with just the 8-8 record that losing all other games from here on out would leave us with.

Not that it will come to that, and I also really think we need homefield advantage through the playoffs to get to the SB, but lets just remember that, lets put our foot on the throat of the Titans this weekend.

I also think both the lolphins and Broncos are better teams than we think.

Titans have called 39 run plays through 3 weeks of play. Texans are AVERAGING 39 runs per game through 3 weeks.

if we keep winning and the divison keeps losing we might be able to win the divison mid Nov 1 week before thanksgiving or by thanksgiving

Division game or not I actually think the Denver game was bigger, because of tie breakers. Denver if Manning gets on a role actually has the potential to challenge our record. It's the same reason why I feel the game against Baltimore is bigger than any divisional game we'll play this season. No team in this division is going to challenge us this season.

The Titans are allowing 37+ ppg and 463 ypg. This is a bad defense. Epically bad. Richard Smith and Frank Bush bad. I look at the talent on defense, and they shouldn't be this bad. A case of the sum being less than its parts.

In week 7 of 2011, both Foster and Tate put up 100+ rushing yards versus the Titans. I can see that happening again. It should be long day for the Titans.

I read on the titans board that their defense was better than the broncos and their offense was good enough to put up 20+ on us easily...

I wanted to create an account just to respond to that one post...

Maybe we can go for a triple and Forsett will put up 100+ also.

ETA -- Checked out the thread about the Texans on GoTitans:
Let's just hope the Texans suffer a major injury.

More blitzes...hell theres no reason to keep a bunch of DBs in the secondary anyway. Might as well try to beat the crap out of Scabb.

Put him in the turf.

I don't think the texans will be steam rolling over us Sunday. Like I said before all the pressure is on them. If we can knock Scabb's head off, that'll be victory enough for me. Pain is comming.
afcsouthdom, Yesterday at 6:18 PM
We wont win, but i sure hope wimbley breaks shaub's nose like brady's haha

And here come the Titans to "test" the Texans. laffo (this in response to someone mentioning our first three opponents)

I'm sure the Texans will go easy on the Titans on Sunday, after all it's going to be the Titans's superbowl for this year. The game surely won't resemble the 41-7 boot party the Texans threw in Nashville last year.
