Default Our O-line

Has anyone else been as impressed with them as me in their pass protection ? I do think they have been below average in the run game but to me it seems Fitz has been having all day to throw the ball. Which i think is also helping him not turn the ball over.

Not complaining just think they could do better. 1st game Foster had 50+ yards after contact and he didn't have a run over 10 yards so, the run blocking wasnt very good IMO.

It could have just been the RB's but the 189 yards rushing today I thought won us this game..

Foster is having a good season, breaking tons of tackles. Besides the 40 yard run he had a tough day running the ball. To me it seems like the o-line just isn't opening up very many holes to run through, although it could also be Foster is not used to running the ball out of the shotgun so much. Who knows.

But i started this thread to compliment them on the pass pro, not to complain about them.

I've been pretty unimpressed, outside of Derek Newton rising from the ashes.

Duane Brown and Chris Myers have had some really bad moments.

I think the run blocking is getting better. We got better seams this week than we did last week. Where we fail is at the second level... & Prosh. He may be a heck of a football player one day, but right now he's still a rookie. On one of the early runs he went out of his way to block a guy who was totally out of the play. Had he played ahead of him he could have got a sweet block where Arian would have been untouched for 6-7 yards.

But... while we are still zone blocking they're going about it a different way... right now it looks like they are holding their blocks on the line a second longer before working their way to the second level. Maybe they're working on passing off defenders before they start focusing on second level blocks.

Pass pro... I thought maybe we just weren't facing good pass rushers then Washington made Henne their plaything.

Keep in mind that Oakland was stacking box all day. Kinda hard to run in those situations.

The opponents have been mostly stacking the box. It's hard to run against 8 men in the box. Considering that, I think they have done a fine job for the most part. Sure they can get better, and I think once X is ready the run game could improve as well.

It is good to be undefeated regardless who the opponent was and be able to see why the Texans can get better. Posey and Martin had good preseason and have had little to no game exposure so could be a plus in future and so should our draft picks when they get healthy. Mallett and Savage getting time to adjust.
I am most pleased with Brooks Reed and Cushing. Now if Crick can learn to "come together right now over the QB"

I thought Crick looked pretty good yesterday. I watched a few plays that he made and the commentators said "Watt" and it was # 93, not #99. Seemed to me like he played a pretty good game with no encroachment or off sides calls like #94 had for the Black Guys had.

I don't think it was anything other than adequate yesterday either .... There was a lot of penetration by defenders , especially on the right side.

The pass protection has been very very good tho .... Fitz is one of only two QB's in the league not to have suffered a sack thru two games , the other is Andy Dalton.

With Newton , you get the opposite of Eric Winston who gave you above average run blocking & piss poor pass protection ....

Foster's big run early kinda skews the stats .... which after that run was very similar to week 1 where he got a lot of yards after contact.

While I don't fully agree with your assessment of DB and Myers, I more than agree with Newton. I saw a replay of a run play where he completely blew someone up! Maybe there was some truth to him playing hurt last season and also he has a little more experience.

That said, I'm still skeptical in general.

He's made some good blocks .... but lacks consistency in run blocking.

That said , he does look 100% better than last years version.

Man I hope not .... I'm not looking forward to Savage or Mallett this early in the season. Really doubt whether either is ready for a full game .... that's a whole different animal than mop up duty.

I was concerned especially after the bad blocking in the preseason but the oline looks solid and doing a very good job. Now my concern is that foster is getting too many carries.
