If you haven't been paying that much attention to the Georgia rookie you may have missed him playing guard the other night when he was very impressive.

Why are you watching line play instead of just following the ball like I do?

Good post. I remember one of the selling points about Smith when we signed him was that he could be moved around on the line.

I would pay Tuesday but I am broker than the ten commandments.

Gotta win Wednesday to be able to afford the 20 bucks Thursday.

I've just got this from ht.com:

Quote:
The Texans have signed offensive tackle Ryan Harris, a fifth-year veteran who started 34 games with the Denver Broncos.
Harris (6-5, 300) was released by the Broncos on Friday. He was a third-round draft pick out of Notre Dame in 2007, when Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison was Denver's offensive coordinator. Dennison coached Harris for four seasons, during which time Harris played right and left tackle.

The 27-year-old Harris was hampered by a back injury in 2007, shoulder and toe injuries in 2009 and an ankle injury in 2010. He started 16 games in 2008, eight in 2009 and 10 in 2010. He was not on an NFL roster last season until the Broncos signed him on Jan. 2 for the playoffs.

The Texans lost Rashad Butler, their backup left and right tackle, to a season-ending triceps injury in their Aug. 30 preseason finale. Butler had lost a tight competition with second-year pro Derek Newton for the starting right tackle job. Harris joins third-year pro Andrew Gardner as depth behind Newton and left tackle Duane Brown.

With the signing of Harris, the Texans now have reached the NFL limit of 53 players on their active roster. They have one spot open on their practice squad.
Pretty much the same report from Florio on PFT.com.

Ryan Harris was a 3rd-rd pick from Notre Dame in 2007, when #Texans offensive coordinator Rick Dennison was Denver's OC

The #Texans have signed former Broncos T Ryan Harris (6-5, 300), filling the final spot on their 53-man roster

according to his wiki, he only gave up 1.5 sacks in 2008. hopefully he's 100% healthy and able to play right away if Newton doesn't pan out.

Thanks for posting. If this cat can get and stay healthy that goes a long way toward good to possibly great depth on the line.

Really early to tell now I know but does anyone for-see Harris being able to push Newton for the starting job?

If he can return to his early form, he could. He could be an upgrade over Winston.

Although, truth be told, I think Newton can be an upgrade over Winston with the proper seasoning.

If we can even just platoon that RT spot with Newton and Harris...it'll keep both guys fresh all game long, help toward the marathon that they'll endure for the next 19 games.

O linemen shouldn't have much trouble staying fresh. At least not at this point in their NFL careers.

I doubt we'll see that happen.

Most of the time, but not all, once a player starts getting nicked up a lot in the NFL, they continue down that road. That's why I'm leary of this guy ever playing full time, just like how I feel about AJ and Schaub.

But everyone knows predicting the NFL is like predicting the weather. We got 16 games ahead of us, we'll see.

I hope Jean , Martin, & Posey all step up this year. The more time on the field for them the less chance AJ gets hurt.

Agreed. If an offensive lineman is staying on the field a long time, it means he's doing something good. That gives you confidence & makes you want to keep going.
