Kubiak feels that his mission in life is tutoring young quarterbacks.

Keenum will get this year and next training camp to show something.

If not, next project up.

I wouldn't call Keenum a bum. Bums don't try, see: Ryan Leaf. But I do not think Kubiak will be successful with this particular project. The UH system just doesn't produce good NFL quarterbacks.

I think the Cardinals just discovered this.

I'm surprised Nick Mondek wasn't wasn't signed to the PS, especially considering what happened to Butler. Anyone know if he was snatched up by another team? Or did he plain out suck in preseason?

Source says Jets put in conditional claims on T Steven Baker, LB DJ Bryant, RB Jonathan grimes, OL Hayworth Hicks + WR Jermaine Kearse … That means Jets had some interest in those guys but they were crossed off their list when higher priority claims filled.

EDIT- Wait a second, how? We already announced Grimes to our PS. Doesnt that mean he already cleared waivers?

EDIT 2- Read the article. It sounds like the Jets put in for the 2, but did not get them because they claimed some other players. Grimes remains on our PS, if I understand correctly.

Yes. Grimes cleared waivers, he's officially on the practice squad. In order to get him now, a team has to put him on their 53 man active squad.

But isn't the only way a team can claim a player on the waiver-wire headed to the other teams PS is make him a member of their 53-man roster ?

Before he's on the practice squad, I don't know. Once he's on the practice squad, then yes, you have to sign him to your active roster.

Honestly, I not sure of the difference.

When you claim a player off waivers he goes onto your 53 man roster. The only way that team can try to get him onto their practice squad is to send him through waivers again. If he clears waivers its his option what PS he wants to sign with so he could just as easily choose to come right back to the Texans.

If a player makes it through waivers, he can then negotiate with any team. Could be that the Texans want one of their own that they released back on the PS.......and negotiations are going slowly or poorly to that end. Maybe even having to do with the Jets preliminary report re. Bryant or Grimes

They could also be looking at players from cut from other teams .... Im betting on OT being a priority for that final spot.

This is also how I understand things. The Jets were afraid that some of their potential practice squad guys wouldn't clear waivers. So they targeted Grimes and Bryant (among others) to fill those spots just in case. Apparently their original guys cleared waivers and Grimes (and probably Bryant) weren't needed.

Edit: Makes me wonder if we had some conditional selections...?
