Why No Discussion On Horrid Defense?

My point was, you can't extrapolate points...or really even yards for that matter, but it makes more sense with yards at least because you can see where they abandoned the run...

They weren't going to abandon attempting to score points.

And this thread was started in pre season. I don't think the OP was saying that the defense was going to be horrid this year only that we didn't look great in his opinion in the pre season.

I don't get it.

Does someone pointing out what they think is a weakness or a fault with the team upset some of you guys? Just seems like some of you take it personal.

The D started shaky, but obviously made adjustments as the game went along. Let's not forget the defense only gave up 3 points. 3 POINTS!

The point of my post was that extrapolating anything is foolish. Anyone can pick a point in a game and extrapolate from there to get the result they want.

The argument is, until a certain point, something was happening. But you can't disregard what happened and what happened afterwards.

I completely agree with all of you that the run defense needs to improve. But at the same time, if this is our run defense getting beat, 3 points is not worth complaining about.

Our run defense was a weakness last year and it's still a weakness this year.

We ended up with a pretty good defensive standing against the run last year simply because people didn't get a chance to run against us as much as they would have liked.

We gave up 4.1 yards a rush which is tied for about 11th in the league. But teams only ran against us 378 times which was 4th fewest in the league. We gave up about the same yards per rush and the same yards per pass yesterday that we gave up last season.

We need to find a way to fix the weakness against the run or eventually, someone's going to use it against us.

I'm not that worried about the defense. It bent a lot yesterday, but didn't break. And several times, it forced turnovers. That's what you want your defense to do. You're not going to force 3 and out every series and the Dolphins were 2-10 on 3rd down, which means we were pretty good at stopping them on third down. We need to improve our defense and force more 3rd downs.

Can we play better? Yes. Are we perfect? No. But there's no way the defense was "horrid."

Im not sure Id call what I saw yesterday horrid. Maybe the d of a few years ago would fit that but not yesterday

Yeah, but it was brought back to life and people are complaining about how bad the D was.

I wasnt so much complaining as agreeing with the point that some of the concerns made during preseason were legit.


I think we more than anything expected the Texans to come out and jump onthe Fish early and often .... they werent able to do that because of some drops in the passing game , a missed FG (53 yards aint no gimmie) and poor field position.
Because of that , the Fish ability to run the ball stood out.
