Great news! Love how Arian and Brown were able to be signed at non-astronomical amounts. Seems like they value winning as well as money, feel like they got fair deals and wants to stay in a good situation to possibly win here than go to some toilet bowl of a franchise like a Cleveland or something.
Sidenote: How in the hell did the Browns dup someone into paying in the BILLIONS for the pile??

No, I didn't say anything like that. I said we (Texans) got a discount on his services, he's still being paid well enough. If he were to hit free agency (probably would be f-tagged though), he could have made at least 10 a year from teams with lots of cap space, like the Bills, Jags, Colts, Bengals etc. A lot of teams are going to have to spend extra next offseason to meet the 90% cap minimum, so the market will be very good for players at premium positions. It will be a player's market next year.

My thoughts, as well. Smith has taken his fair share of lumps, so we have to give him props when he does something fantastical like this news.
Awesome! Congrats to D.B. and hopefully a lifelong Texan protecting our QBs blindside. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Maybe he's just following Arian's example and accepting a good but not great offer which allows the Texans more flexibility to keep other players.

I would like to think that's the reason AF and DB signed these friendly contracts. After all, what good is it to get a huge contract if the team has to cut some of it's better players because they can't afford them all? Heck, Foster didn't get all he could've gotten, and we still had to release or cut a number of good players because of the cap. I think the Texans are playing it right. Sign your key players to good deals, release who you can't sign, then draft to fill in the holes.

Outstanding news, props to Rick Smith for getting this done and for a price that's good for both sides.
As for Barwin, I think we have more leverage on him due to our depth at the OLB position and ability to draft that position well. While I very much want to extend Barwin as well, I want it for a reasonable price tag. I think we'll get that deal done as well, as I don't see Barwin as the type to squeeze us for every nickle he can get. Hopefully these guys realize we're trying to put together a team to make several deep playoff/Super Bowl runs. |

Unbelievable steal of a deal! Duane clearly believes in the Texans and wants to stay. And yes, I must give Rick Smith his due. But Duane deserves just as much love for signing the deal. It means he wants to be here.

I wonder if the fact that Houston is considered a Superbowl contender or at least has the window open is a reason Brown was willing to take less money than everyone was expecting.

Smithiak, kicking butt and taking names.
I take good players taking 'discounts' as a sign of a good organisation.

Hey Bro, I'm sorry but I think Barwin will be the salary cap casualty that all "GOOD" teams have to experience.
YES!! I said "GOOD" teams!!!

Reported numbers are great for both sides. Brown gets a nice bump and Texans get a cap friendly contract. Look, I hate to bring it up...sorta, but Foster and Brown's deals combined > Williams. |

Here's a question guys... Do you think Duane Brown has HOF potential?

So much goes into all that, it's hard to say. We're pretty stacked for talent, & we've got a great offensive mind on offense (Kubiak) & defense (Wade). We could very well have a dynasty on our hands. If he continues to do what he's been doing, he could definitely be considered off the HOF

How come Brown only gets 22 M guaranteed when Mario gets 50 M, and
Duane is more important to us than Mario ever was ? I don't get it ? |
