I really hope we get it but I have a feeling Atlanta will be the chosen city for 09.

We keep hearing it's either Houston or Atlanta. Miami gets it in 07, so maybe not them in 09 again, but why is it assumed that Tampa doesn't have a chance? I missed that.

.. and then?

Yeah, Mayor White didn't sound TOO confident this morning about it on 610. He noted head to head, we'd take it but apparently Atlanta is throwing tax-money at the owners as incentive? (speculation as I haven't heard this before).
If nothing else, maybe we'll get the Jets turn at the wheel that they were promised if they got the new stadium built. It'd be fun to have it here again, we defintely put on a good show as a hosting city last time. |

Tampa has a very good chance at getting it too. If you check their website it says that they made the best bid they had ever done or something like that, but I really hope we get it.

They can't possibly give it to Atlanta because of the weather and the fact that they are not ready now......especially after a successful one here.
Look for the announcement today to favor us.

Stinkin politics!! Atlanta will get it for that reason only! They had a bad ice storm the last time they hosted the SB, but, I dont' think the NFL will even take that into consideration. If weather was a major factor, why are they in the final four? It's all politics! Atlanta needs a new/renovated stadium and this is the NFLs way of making sure they get it.

This is a slam dunk for Atlanta, and having lived there for a year I can tell
you it's a good town and a big time convention center that is deserving of the SB. Yes convention center and that's what the SB is, one of the countrys biggest, most sought after annual conventions and therein is the silver lining for Houston. Historically Houston is an economic giant, but as an industrial center and the hemispheres (if not the worlds), energy center. Thru developement downtown (thank "Kenny Boy" for getting the downtown renaissance rolling with the Enron/Minute Maid stadium), and of course Bob McNair for building Reliant, Houston is now competing head to head with places like Atlanta & N.Texas for this convention business on a national basis. |

This Sux!
Tampa Bay awarded Super Bowl XLIII WASHINGTON (May 25, 2005) -- Tampa Bay was awarded the 2009 Super Bowl today in a vote at the NFL owners meetings. It beat out three other finalists for the game: Atlanta, Houston and South Florida. Super Bowl XLIII will be the fourth Super Bowl in Tampa, and the first one since 2001, when the Baltimore Ravens defeated the New York Giants, 34-7, in Super Bowl XXXV. The first Super Bowl in Tampa was held in 1984, when the Los Angeles Raiders beat the Washington Redskins, 38-9, in Super Bowl XVIII. The 2006 game -- Super Bowl XL -- will be held in Detroit, followed by Miami in 2007 and Glendale, Arizona, in 2008.

seemed as if the race came down to Atlanta and Houston but not surprising to see Tampa get it.+

I couldn't figure out why everyone had Tampa written off.
It's a beautiful city ... with the beaches, palm trees, the skyway bridge going into the city, great weather (in February) and all the stuff those owners and their wives love. But, I'm sure if they could go between Miami and San Diego every year with the Super Bowl, they would. With time, if they can get into Mexico with the NFL, they'll want the Super Bowl in Acapulco.

Acapulco isn't beautiful anymore, its a party city now and not even big enough to hold a SB
