Default FO - Matt Schaub Most Pressured QB in 2011

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/sta...-plays-offense

Football Outsiders article 2011 Pressure Plays, Offense shows Matt Schaub was the most pressured QB last year.

M.Schaub Plays/312, Pct Pressure/33.3%, Rk/1
With Pass Pressure Yds/4.5, DVOA/-25.8%, Rk/2
Without Pass Pressure Yds/9.4, DVOA/70.4%, Rk/3

Quote:
If you recall from last week, the Texans defense led the league in pressure percentage last year. I'm guessing Houston readers aren't as excited about Matt Schaub topping this week's list, especially considering it's a bit of a surprise. Houston's offensive line ranked in the middle of the pack in Adjusted Sack Rate, not dead last, and the unit got a positive review last year from none other than Ben Muth. Schaub took a sack on only 5.2 percent of his dropbacks last season, so the culprit for his high percentage was hurries. If we look only at his throws, Schaub was hurried 30.9 percent of the time, which was 7.6 percent higher than the next-highest quarterback (in this case, Roethlisberger). The silver lining for Schaub is that he didn't respond to all that pressure with a DVOA like Tim Tebow's.
The Good
DVOA without Pressure...Schaub ranked third
DVOA with Pressure...Schaub ranked second

The Bad
Pressures...ranked first
Hurries...ranked first

Two things stand out in these numbers; Matt Schaub is outstanding when defenders are in his face, and last year defenders were in Matt Schaub's face too much.

Ya, I love it when they blitz Matt because he often burns the defense but it does increase his risk for injury.

I don't think anyone hates Schaub, I just think they worry about his durability.

This is fantastic considering Foster out for two games, five games without AJ.

This makes me even more worried about our O line.

No he didn't. Where do these myths get started?

http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog...nsive-tackles/

Winston has been one of the most reliable and effective pass blockers at either tackle position throughout the entire NFL.

Does getting sacked count as a pressure?

Cause off the top of my head without looking up stats, I have a hard time believing that Blane Gabbert was pressured less than Schaub.

That number is skewed alot. Matt Schaub does a lot of naked bootleg passes where he doesn't have an olinemen pulling to block. Anytime a quarterback goes on a naked bootleg he is gonna get pressured.

To me, this just says that teams are really worried about our passing game and are bringing a lot of heat. They don't want Matt sitting back there and picking them apart.

Since Matt was only 23rd in the league in terms of sack percentage, he did OK against it and didn't take as many negative plays as he could have.

Except that he didn't have AJ to throw it to for 6 (out of 10) games he played in 2011.

Um....he's not.

Not complaining, because he's good and everybody can't have one of those, but he's not. It's not his fault either; he just doesn't have an arm like those guys. To me, Matt Schaub is kinda like Peyton Manning, but with a lazer, spaghetti arm, LOL.

Winston wasn't terrible in pass pro last year, but he did struggle some at times. Even he admitted that on the radio. He single handedly kept Miami in the game and almost got TJ killed against Atlanta. It wasn't one of his better years protecting the QB. But Ferguson of the Jets is on the list Goatcheese provided with Winston and Jets fans will admit that it wasn't one of his better years. It happens to even the best of Tackles.

Schaub definitely didn't seem overly pressured to me. There were a few games it didn't even seem like he was touched at all. The Raiders and Ravens games he was beat up and he played a shortened season so maybe the numbers are skewed somewhat because of that.

Nobody is saying he's a HoFer, but there's a middle ground between the all time greats and average.

I think he's in a group with guys like Rapistberger, and Rivers but a little behind Eli and Stafford.

I remember a lot of balls being thrown away last year. Typically Schaub will roll out, limiting himself to half the field which rapidly fills with DBs, finds all his receivers covered and ultimately throws the ball out of bounds to avoid an approaching defender. I saw this happen multiple times in certain games and I'm sure these contributed to the high number of hurries in a big way.
