Should know more by afternoon quotes.

I'd be fine if they mostly shut him down.

Lots of guys on the ground today. Kubiak was getting a little hot about it.

The thing that you worry about the most is that eversion ankle sprains are very commonly associated with a fracture of the fibula bone. Hopefully, beyond a simple stretch of the deltoid ligaments of the inner ankle, it was not violent enough to produce a fracture. Since he walked off the field, supposedly without a limp, fracture is less likely, but would not rule out a stress fracture. The MRI has the best chance of identifying the severity of his injury.

This is an iillustration of severe eversion injury. On the apparent right side, you see a total extensive separation fracture of the fibula. With a stress fracture, there would be a sometimes almost imperceptible hairline fracture instead.

A high ankle sprain mechanism can occur with a hit to the outer leg (as described) that causes a twist motion to the ankle region. Mechanism of injury in a high ankle sprain caused by injury to the tibiofibular connecting ligaments. This mechanism involves dorsiflexion and eversion of the ankle with internal rotation of the tibia.

In practice coaches don't want guys going to the ground. They don't want you taking guys to the ground.

It happens of course, but you always hear coaches yelling "stay up" or "stay on your feet".

Hey - that's exactly what happened to me! Only, it wasn't a hit - I stepped off a curb (to just connect another thread on the board, it was at a Chick-Fil-A...), landed awkwardly on my right foot which twisted inward and gave me an inversion sprain, and then came down really awkwardly on my left foot leading to an eversion sprain and 3 breaks. Had two surgeries (second was to "fix" the first one - hint: don't break an ankle on the 4th of July and get some random Orthopedic Surgeon on call who no one at the hospital even knows...), weeks of recovery, and then more weeks of PT, and it still wasn't back to 100% for about a year.

I certainly appreciate all of that, because once when playing I got my elbow dislocated when I was on the ground and got stepped on.
You don't like to get knocked off your feet anytime, in a game or practice, but it happens, especially in the NFL where many of these guys are practicing full-tilt because they don't want to get cut. It's their bread-and-butter, how they pay the bills, it's now how they make a living, not a game anymore to them.

It’s unclear how much time, if any, Brown will miss, but it doesn’t sound like it will be much. Which means all of ‘Texans Nation’ can breathe a sigh of relief.

We’ll have more on Brown’s injury from Texans head coach Gary Kubiak later this afternoon.
Preliminary apparently good news. Would await Kubiak's official report on the MRI before celebrating.

Because of a minor ankle sprain in TC? Not likely...... He'll want at least top 10 tackle money. Most likely Top 5.

Default Re: Duane Brown Hurts Ankle

The terms ‘bone bruises’ and ‘bone contusions’ are commonly used to refer to areas of localised bony tenderness after a traumatic injury, where there is no X-ray evidence of fracture. These painful injuries are classified as ‘sub-periosteal haematomas’ (see insert of diagram below for relationship of periosteum cover to bone layers) while they can persist for several weeks, they usually resolve spontaneously with no further consequences. The bone itself in these injuries are not primarily injured. The periosteum is a thick, fibrous membrane that covers and helps nourish our bones. It is very vascular, meaning is has a large blood supply to it, so when there is a traumatic force applied to a bone, like jamming your shin on a coffee table, it can cause bleeding between the membrane and the bone...but still outside the bone.

However, ‘bone bruise’ is also used to describe lesions which are quite distinct from sub-periosteal haematomas. There may be only a minor difference between these bone bruises and a stress fracture, both being produced by compressive forces, and both only being able to be detected through MRI. Basically, this type of bone bruise comprises of a simple injury in which there is damage to the bone itself is superficial. The injury is essentially a precursor to a bone fracture. In this type of injury the cortex (outer layer) of the bone is damaged. In a bone bruise only a small amount of damage happens to the bone, yet it can cause bleeding into and outside of the bone. Even though not a fracture, a bone bruise usually causes quite severe pain that does not go away easily and is likely to last for months. These type of bone bruises likewise take a prolonged time to heal as the injury also affects the innermost part (medullary/marrow layer) of the bone.
Should this be the case, there is additional concern of subsequent development of arthritis.

Micro-current (electro)therapy is a technique that is usually used to try to facilitate the bone healing in these cases of “bone bruise. It essentially tries to stimulate the bone to heal quicker by mimicing those electrical signals normally delivered by the body to heal bone damage.

Hopefully, the report is reflecting a “bone bruise” in the fashion of a “periosteal hematoma”.............not one of a cortical damage type.

I'm not saying he's damaged merchandise, because I realize (thankfully !) that
the injury is very minor, insignificant. What I'm saying is it might have Duane thinking "dang, what if I were to have a really serious injury, blow out a knee or something ?". It might soften him up psychologically, make him more "flexible" in negotiating/accepting the terms of an offer from the Texas ? After all he's a married man now, got responsibilities.
