Another day, another NFL player arrested for driving under the influence.

According to Nashville radio station 104.5 The Zone, Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt has been arrested for DUI. Details on the arrest are still developing outside of the fact that it took place in Fort Campbell, an army base which is on the line between Kentucky and Tennessee. According to the report, Britt and teammate Tommie Campbell were bringing a female soldier back to the base when guards at the gate stopped the vehicle.

At this point, are we even surprised when it happens? Well, we shouldn't be. As first reported by radio station 104.5 The Zone, Tennessee Titans receiver Kenny Britt was arrested for a DUI at Fort Campbell, Ky., on Friday morning. According to the initial report, Brit and teammate Tommie Campbell were bringing a female soldier back to the army base when they were stopped at the security gate.

It is Britt's eighth incident involving police since he became the first Rutgers player ever selected in the first round of the NFL draft in 2009.

"I'll be the first to admit I got caught in some difficult circumstances, and made some bad decisions in my past," Britt told the Nashville Tennessean in May. "But all that changed me as a person, and I learned from it and got stronger from it."

"He has a different view of life," teammate Nate Washington said of Britt just a few weeks ago. "He's spending a lot of time with his family and with his teammates, staying out of unnecessary trouble. I really don't worry about any of these guys. They understand that it's a job now for them and not school days. You can't have any wild fun now. You're grown men."

Britt eluded NFL punishment for two incidents that happened during the 2011 lockout -- in late August after the new collective bargaining agreement was ratified, Britt met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who told Britt that as long as he stayed on the straight and narrow, he was getting a mulligan.

In April of 2011, he was arrested in New Jersey after driving his car more than 20 mph over the speed limit in a 50 mph zone. He was charged with eluding an officer and hindering apprehension, and the charges were reduced to a misdemeanor and a fine. Just one day after the charges were reduced, Britt was spotted by two police officers at a car wash in Hoboken. The officers smelled marijuana and identified Britt as the source. He was handcuffed after police wrestled him to the ground, and it was believed that a friend of Britt's may have disposed of a suspicious cigar. The charges included resisting arrest. Before that, there were other incidents through his NFL career -- traffic warrants, driving without a license, failing to pay promised bail for a friend, and a bar fight in which eventually, no charges were brought against him.

"The commissioner restated his expectation that Britt will be responsible for his actions going forward and noted that future incidents will lead to appropriate discipline," NFL spokesperson Greg Aiello said at the time.

Well, here we are. Britt will almost certainly face a multiple-game suspension when this all shakes out, and the Titans selected Baylor receiver Kendall Wright to pick up the slack in this year's draft. The thought was that the Titans needed more weapons as Britt recovered from multiple knee surgeries, but there are now other concerns.

In a larger sense, Goodell will have to do something reasonable about the NFL's recent crime wave -- since Super Bowl XVLI ended on the evening of Feb. 5, there have been 27 different arrests of NFL players. In the last week alone, Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch (DUI), St. Louis Rams defensive end Robert Quinn (DUI) and Britt (DUI) have all been popped for the same basic offense.

Again, I said reasonable. Not what Goodell usually does, which is to act in haste and with extremism before he gathers all the facts (see Saints, New Orleans), but something concrete and serious and most definitely in partnership with the NFLPA.

Players aren't going to listen to Goodell's "angry patrician uncle" shtick when it comes to changing their lifestyles -- and some won't listen at all -- but a new and more powerful message needs to be sent. Not more punitive, but certainly more powerful.

Goodell needs to make it mandatory 4-game suspension for every DUI or DWI a player receives.

They suspend players for using something as minor as ADD drugs...might as well ratchet up the punishment on DUI/DWI and send a message that driving while intoxicated is as bad as getting popped for something on the PED list.

How many times does it take for grown ass men to realize they cannot drink and drive and get away with it? It's sickening. You're endangering your own life and the lives of others. It has to stop, and punishment by Goodell (and everyone groans when I say that, I'm sure) but this has to stop and the league needs to make it stop.

Until then, the little one time, two time, three time baby step program is not going to cut the mustard. ONE TIME and you get suspended for 4 games.

That'll make them pay attention to their drink/drive problem if that comes to pass. Call a freaking cab. A limo. Whatever. Grown ass men acting like idiots.

Bob Jenkins, director of public affairs at Fort Campbell, said Britt was attempting to enter the base at approximately 3:30 a.m. through Gate 4.

He was given a field sobriety test, and failed, according to Jenkins.

When we posted on the report of Kenny Britt’s DUI arrest earlier on Friday, we said that details were still developing.

One of those details appears to be the presence of cornerback Tommie Campbell at the scene. The initial report placed Campbell in the car with Britt and a female soldier when they were stopped at the gate of Fort Campbell on the border of Tennessee and Kentucky. Campbell took to Twitter on Friday afternoon to dispute that claim:

Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean has more details after speaking with the director of public affairs at Fort Campbell, who confirms that Britt was taken into custody after failing a field sobriety test at 3:30 a.m. on Friday. Wyatt also spoke with Tommie Campbell, who reiterated the information in his tweet and said he’s called the Titans to let them know he wasn’t there.

I didn't groan. I'm in complete agreement. As a matter of fact I think there should be a zero tolerance statute when DWI/DUI is the offense. An automatic 6 game suspension, no questions asked. I don't know if that's allowable under the CBA but if these kids knew upfront what the punishment is going to be it should slow this entirely avoidable situation from arising 20+ times in ONE offseason.

As a matter of fact I think he should be suspended until Monday, December third.

I say have them start at a 1 game suspension for the first time (if convicted), 2 games for the second, 3 for the third, and so on. 4 seems like a lot to start with, even marijuana use doesn't receive suspensions until the 3rd violation.

I don't have a problem with one game for the first, but it needs to ramp up a lot faster. If a guy gets 4 DUI's during an NFL career (even a long NFL career), there's no way the NFL should tell him to sit 4 games and then come back and play. Second should be at least 4 games - if not 8, and if there's a third, a full season. Beyond that, something like permanent suspension with a right to appeal after two years (which is pretty much the same as permanent for almost all players).

Second time offender??? Four games without pay.

I imagine there be some sort of resolution in the next CBA. This has been a very BAD past week or two for the NFL's image.

Talked to a military attorney. He related that state rules don't necessarily strictly apply to military base civilian DUI infractions. However, the breathalyzer and blood tests are routinely initially requested. If refused, a field sobriety test is then performed. Furthermore, as he put it, even without the aforementioned tests, the DWI may be issued if in the opinion of the investigating or arresting law enforcement officer or other eyewitness, the offending driver is intoxicated, under the influence or impaired.

So what did Titans receiver Kenny Britt do the day after being summoned to meet with Commissioner Roger Goodell in Manhattan? Britt missed a rehab session for his still-injured knees, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.

After the Titans fined him $9,915 for the infraction, Britt took a picture of the fine letter, posted it on Instagram, and added the following message: “Yu gotta be [expletive] kidding me.. walk back to dis.. Don’t dey know I have kids .. I’m tired of did [expletive].”

Bud Adams is really putting together a Class A franchise year in and year out.

This is the year I finally got over my hate for Bud leaving Houston.

It's finally dawned on me that him leaving Houston and taking his dysfunctional franchise with him was THE best thing that could have happened.

We wonder why Football Jesus would ever turn on us and have our beloved Oilers leave Houston. I mean, "Why would God do that to us?" But now I know, it was actually the best thing for us Houston pro football fans. It was like draining a swamp once and for all. And then pumping fresh water into it and running an oxygenator so that the water stays fresh.

Now the stinky pond is in Tennessee. This is why I can't find myself respecting Titans fans. They got their team illegitimately, IMO, and they should know in their souls and in their bones that Bud Adams is a scourge and a curse. So if they ignore all of those things and if they threw their lot in with Bud Adams at the beginning, and then continue to root for that team they have now??? Well, I guess they shouldn't act surprised when things get freaky and the win column starts suffering year after year. Duh.
