Dolphins changing their logo

I like the new logo....it looks more modern...just hate to see it happen to a banner franchise like them.

While the new logo might be similar to the bottom logo, it's still under development, and hasn't been finalized yet (it won't be used until the 2013 season at the earliest). The Dophins have hinted strongly that the sun feature which currently surrounds the dolphin will remain on the helmet logo.

Actually that is not the new logo. That is an old logo for Dolphins stadium. The writer is just speculating.

Personally I hate when teams change from older traditional uniforms to something more "modern".

The best uniform change is when teams go back to their traditional look e.g. New York Jets, NY Giants and Buffalo Bills.

I say NO to the modern look.

As goofy as the facemask-less helmeted dolphin looks, it's THE logo for that team. It's a classic, even if it's cartoony and not modern.

So what. It's their logo. I can see the Marlins changing theirs...that franchise does not have the long-standing history that the Dolphins have. So it's early enough for the Marlins to do a re-work of the logo.

But the Dolphins need to keep the original. In 10 years, the modern version will look as dorky as the Astros' open-ended star logo. Modernizing a logo is very risky. It looks good NOW but never looks right later on.

Besides the Oilers I grew up rooting for the Bucs. Mainly because I really loved the orange/red/white colors and the Bucco Bruce logo. When I was a kid I had an orange Doug Williams jersey, Bucs logo backpack, watch, etc.

I initially hated it when they changed, however the new Bucs get up is pretty cool and more "pirate" looking.

I guess my point is IF you are going to change from something traditional it better be pretty darn awesome.

For example, the current Patriots uniforms are horrible, especially their John Kerry looking logo. The old logo was pretty cool IMO.

That's funny, Hookem. I remember as a kid hating three teams because of their logos: Dolphins, Bucs, and Patriots.

I like the updated Bucs and Patriots logos. And I'm sure whatever the Dolphins come up with will be met with skepticism by many, but I have little doubt that I will dig it over that goofy helmet-too-small dolphin logo they have now.

I love when teams update their logos. Its fun to look back 20, 30, 50 years and see the evolution of a franchise's image. And it makes classic jersey games more interesting too

Ok I assume the Dolphins pay big bucks to the markerting dept. but this or anything similar to this is weak. It looks like a logo that a Jet Ski maker would use.

I agree with you about the one for Dolphin Stadium. It's trying to hard.

I actually think they could update their existing logo. Just remove the helmet and do minor tweaks on the dolphin...maybe remove that sun in the background or something.

Hearing news about franchises changing their logos make me really worried about the future of my Texans logo I got tatted a couple of months ago.

That said, the Dolphins old logo was awful.

I agree with you.

The new Bucs logo is modernized but still maintains that cartoony sports logo look. Color scheme is tons better too.

I also like the old Patriots logo. I generally like the older logos from the 1940s through 70s. That 30-year era was iconic in many ways.

I wish I could remember the name of the comedian I was listening to the other day on Sirius radio. He was talking about football fans and he was going on about how he is a Carolina Panthers fan and that every time the Panthers make a first down, the sound system blares out an angry panther growl. He figured that at Dolphin games, there should be a dolphin squeaking sound after every first down. He mimicked a dolphin sound and it was hilarious.

That would be cool .. have the flipper sound going off. Real dolphins are actually pretty cool. I got to do a "swim with the Dolphins" thing here a couple of months ago.

I always thought the whole Dolphin theme was pretty lame for a football team. Why not something mean like Sharks? However now that I live in Florida and get the "vibe" here the Dolphins thing makes more sense now. Even in this part of Florida it seems like they have a pretty good following judging by cars and seeing people sporting their shirts/hats, etc.

Sometimes I guess you have to live in or be familiar with the area to get the whole theme of some sports teams.

The same holds true for the NHL Tampa Bay Lightning. I always thought that was a lame name however now that I live near Tampa I get it. I have seen more lightning here in 4 months than I think I have seen in a life time. Supposedly the Tampa Bay area is the lightning strike capital of the world.
