I've come across a multitude of sources chronicling Wade's initial turnarounds followed by second year failur. But I really never heard about this "curse" until I recently came across this Sports Ilustrated article published November 16, 2011.

Fun read. But this year is destined for us to win it all.
People will be hopping aboard the bandwagon after 2012. We're going to win it all. Steamrolling.

Superstition is not foolish - just ask a Red Sox fan.

Sorry doctor is tied up with the Saints scandal. I thought Hainesworth fell on Schaub not Flutie?

Flutie pooch kicked a FG ...
In related news many NFL players have kicked their wives or girfriends in the pooch.

Losing Schaub last year was due to the "Curse of Dumbass Playcalling".
Running Schaub up the gut at the two yard line, playing it safe, feeding the QB right into the waiting jaws of hungry hungry hippo Haynesworth...well, let's just say that we have a FB to run that play instead of putting a QB in a dogpile where no first down or TD was to be gained from it. Arrogant, dumbass playcall that had a bad ending. Nothing to do with Wade or his magical Flutie. I'm not 'blaming' Kubiak or the OC and this is not an indictment on them, but that single play was stupid at the time and dumbass in hindsight. Obviously, JMO

I believe that the Curse of Flutie was turned over by the Curse of the Bum!
The Curse of the Bum began when Bud Adams fired Bum Phillips. After that, The Oilers never got back on track. Even when they had great teams, they would always be done by the Divisional Playoffs. Think "The Comeback" or "Montana's Last Miracle" The curse struck the hardest when the team left, leaving the fans in Houston without a team for six long years. The Curse followed the Titans to Nashville. There it allowed them to make it to the Super Bowl, only to lose by one yard. When the Texans came around, it made its presence felt by shunning us with mediocrity over the first 9 years. The Curse was finally broken in 2011 when The Texans hired Wade Phillips. Hiring the son of the Bum broke the curse of the bum and also offset the curse of the Flutie. Because any Baseball fan knows, all curses leave in two's. So believe what you want to believe about flutie. It won't make any difference here in Houston!

They were never trying to get a first down after that point. We can agree to disagree about the play, but I personally don't put my QB - who is not a good runner - in that position. It gains nothing and puts wear and tear on him. We have backs to do the dirty work. If anyone wants to get superstitious about it, the Curse of Haynesworth as Schaub's nemesis is what this was about, and nothing to do with the Bills, Flutie, or Wade. Personally, I don't believe in curses and Schaub just got injured on a routine play (that I happened to disagree with when it happened, before we knew he was injured). Like all fans, we are free to agree/disagree with any given play during games. |
