Is there really any more anyone needs to know about Kiper?

I hope defenses stack against the run; AJ's yardage goes up or OD go to probowl.

Plus, it's just too much to resist--every year in the build up to the draft--to NOT play up the QB prospects. They're the high-wire act, the bull riding, the main event at WWE....the QB position in a draft year is always going to produce some new "legend" and so the analysts fall in love and forget that other guys, maybe even non-QB guys at that, are going to be better than the darlings of the draft.

I have gotten to the point where I just laugh at it. Even with Andrew Luck, there's a part of me that says "Hey, these guys said Reggie Bush would be the next Gale Sayers." He was going to go bananas and berserk on the whole NFL and be great stuff. Oops. So why is Andrew Luck automatically the BEST guy since Manning all of a sudden??? I mean, it's freaking Stanford. If Luck was so awesome, why are they not undefeated and playing for the title? What insanely talented defense did they play, and play consistently all season long??? So I don't buy the hype with Luck, he's the next best thing because Manning was the next best thing and it's a convenient theory to say that the Colts will just walk into another Peyton Manning by getting Andrew Luck. Might just be Bledsoe or Jeff George all over again, btw.

So big whoop. Just because they get some guys pegged incorrectly, doesn't mean they don't know football. They might even be TOLD they have to hype to get the eyeballs onto their paid area of the ESPN site. Drama, drama, drama...it's all about getting clicks (as Richard Justice would testify to).

That's all I'm saying.

Even the guys who are good at this (and I don't think Kiper is) get it wrong.

A draft grade immediately after a draft, even a year after a draft, is really just some guy who doesn't know the team saying that the guys who do know the team and had more time to study the players agreed with his assessment of both.

All we heard last year was that teams were going to put 8, 9, 10 guys in the box to stop Arian since AJ and Schaub were out. Look how we turned out. The texans are not a one dimensional team, they cannot be easily stopped

Look up Mike Mayock's pre-draft takes on Reggie Bush and Aggie QB Reggie McNeal for a good laugh. All of the draft gurus make mistakes, just like all NFL teams make mistakes.

The thing that Mel Kiper is really really good at, and the reason he gets paid to be on ESPN, is because during draft time he can tell you about Joe Dinkleberry, CB, Lower Southwest Montana State, as well as all the other guys who get picked during the draft. His analysis itself is, meh, but he can remember scouting reports and regurgitate them on live tv during the draft pretty well.

As far as any analysis he might offer beyond that, beware.

We've got 6th rounders on this team from 3 drafts ago, 1st rounders had better be starters.
Not on great teams like the Steelers and Ravens, they have to play in a spots and learn the system before they earn the starting nods.

The guys who do this sort of thing on TV would rather be doing it for a team, with the exception of maybe Kiper. The fact that they don't have an NFL job should tell us something about their qualifications.
