Rams just drafted a K with the first of the 6th round, you never know if both teams had them graded the same way round, but it kind of vindicates taking him in the 5th.

Maybe it's like a fantasy draft. Nobody wants to be that guy that takes a kicker first, but once somebody does everybody drafts one. In this scenario however, I'm glad the Texans got their guy.

I thought Greg Zuerlein was a higher ranked kicker but I'm glad we got our guy before the kicker rush started in the 6th. Great pick.

Read on twitter that Zuerlein made 9 straight kicks from over 50 yards. That's pretty damn impressive.

But I can't nitpick our selection. He did win the Lou Groza award.

went 9 for 9 over 50 yards. Included two 58 yarders. Pretty beastly.

Fantastic stats, but in the NFL you'd prefer certainty <50 (missed 1 all season <50 and it was >40) and work on his leg, how many 50+ yarders do you expect to make a K attempt in a year?

Glad we've got the guy we feel most comfortable with.

That is. But except at the end of the halves you don't see too many attempts a lot longer than 50, especially since you lose the 7 yards (the length of the snap) on a miss in the NFL whereas you don't in college. Most NFL teams will punt and play field position football once you start talking about 55+ yarders, even when your kicker has the leg for it.

It was a simple question. During interviews at the NFL Scouting Combine, Houston Texans special teams coach Joe Marciano asked Texas A&M kicker Randy Bullock how he would handle his first adverse situation in the NFL. "You've never had a slump," Marciano said. "What happens when you have your first one?" Bullock, without blinking an eye, said, "Coach, my dad died when I was 15. How much more adversity is there?" Bullock was a freshman at Klein High School in Houston in 2004 when he and his older brother, Rhett, went on a hunting trip to South Texas with their father, Rich. On the final day of the trip, two days before Christmas, Rich died of a heart attack. He was 53. "It was tough, but at the same time, my mom and brother were very supportive of me the whole way," Bullock said. "I can't thank them enough for all the support that they've given me. They are a big part of my success." In his locker, Bullock keeps a picture of his dad, to whom he dedicated his senior season. Bullock won the Lou Groza Award as the nation's best kicker after making 29 of 33 field goals. For his career, Bullock made 63 of 80 field-goal attempts. Still, he isn't likely to be drafted. "It's tough, but at the same time, I think I have what it takes," Bullock said. "Draft day, I might not get a phone call, but I think I'll get an opportunity to go to camp somewhere and compete for a job."

And that he has.
