Bucs shopping Aqib Talib for trade

The signs of the Buccaneers’ interest in drafting LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne are coming faster and faster.

Ronde Barber is playing safety at the team’s workouts, Barber said last week that the team will “probably” draft Claiborne and now there’s a report that the team is shopping cornerback Aqib Talib in a trade. A team source told Pewter Report that general manager Mark Dominik would like to acquire additional picks in next week’s draft in exchange for Talib, a pretty good sign that the team plans to add a starter at the position.

Wanting to deal Talib and actually dealing him are birds of a very different feather. Talib’s trial for aggravated assault with a handgun doesn’t start until June 25th, which means teams are not going to have any idea of his status for quite some time. There’s also the specter of a suspension from the league to deal with and that’s not going to help the Bucs get much value in return for Talib.

Talib is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is set to make just over $1.85 million in 2012.

At that price, the Texans could actually use him. Talib as a #2 CB to JJo would be sick. I wonder how little the Bucs would take for him. Maybe a 5th or give them back their 4th that we got from the Eagles? He's in the last year of his deal, so if he doesn't work out, no biggie.

No way, not gonna happen. No way Bob buys off on bringing him around.

We might be able to take a flyer on him, but the trade should be contingent on if Talib is available and how many games he may get suspended for. If he never sees the field because he in ineligible or incarcerated, we should get back some low round picks in the 2013 draft.

The trial for his Federal gun charge (Texas incident where he and his mother allegedly fired shots at a man) was supposedly in late March. Any news of how it ended up, or if it was delayed?

I don't think Bob has a need for him on the roster. Just a hunch.

Of course the Bucs want to trade Talib. What's the value on a guy that stands a good chance of going to prison. I'd give them a broken lawn mower and an ugly cheerleader, if we've got one.

Second Degree Felony Range of Punishment - Texas Penal Code
§ 12.33. SECOND DEGREE FELONY PUNISHMENT.

(a) An individual adjudged guilty of a felony of the second degree shall be punished by imprisonment in the institutional division for any term of not more than 20 years or less than 2 years.

(b) In addition to imprisonment, an individual adjudged guilty of a felony of the second degree may be punished by a fine not to exceed $10,000.

Having spoken to a criminal attorney, this is the impressions I walked away with.:

In light of his previous history of misdemeanor violent acts, if convicted, it is unlikely that he will be sentenced the minimum of 2 years. Probably closer to 5-6 years.

If there is a plea bargain, his suspension is likely to be at least a year.

If he is acquitted, knowing Goodell, it would surprise me if he would be given meaningful playing time this season anyway.


Bobby will not be willing to make any future trips to the courts or Goodell's office to vouch for his character.........Talib will not become a Texan........unless Bobby can figure out how to pith him as part of the deal.
