Default Draft Chart

NFL Draft Value Chart

The following chart is used by NFL general managers and coaches when making trades on draft day.

If a team wants to move up from No. 3 to No. 1, it'll cost them 800 points. That means it'll have to trade its second- and third-round picks (550 + 255 = 805) to make the move.

Round 1 Round 2 Round 3 Round 4 Round 5 Round 6 Round 7
1) 3,000 33) 580 65) 265 97) 112 129) 43 161) 27 193) 14.2

I put this up here because I thought this may be helpful to those who would like a breakdown of what it takes to move up to into a round and what a team will receive to move out of a round...so if we(Texans)were to trade out of 26...to move up or down..what it would take or what we will receive

before you pay the rookies the money, you have to go by a draft chart to measure trading up or back...rookie pay scale is another conversation after you have made your draft...though I will say that there may be a few teams who dont wanna pay the big bucks in the draft 1-10 just may look to trade down for better value..but you gotta have a barometer to measure trading places in the draft...unless of course I am missing on your whole point

The concept you explain is fine, but the chart that flaots around the internet is dated going back to the Jimmy Johnson days with the Cowboys. The specific values are off given the situation of 2012.

Thanks Arlington Texan. I just wanted to give a basic understanding on what it would take to move up or down..I guess I should have specified Basic.

Another thing to remember is that the draft value charts that can be found on many different sites are a basic guideline, they're not engraved in stone and often times the team proposing a trade down/up gets less value for their position than the chart suggests in order to make the trade. Losing a few points in the trade is the cost of doing business.
