Default Salary Cap (as of 3/30)

http://blogs.nfl.com/2012/03/30/sala...for-each-team/

didnt know where else to put this, but thought it important.

does it make the texans smart or stupid that they are 1 of only 2 teams with no carryout cap hit?

Default Re: Salary Cap (as of 3/30)

Houston Texans
Current contracts: 51
Previous year carryover: $0.00
Adjustments: $2,297,606.00
Adjusted cap: $122,897,606.00
Team cap: $119,298,594.00
Cap room: $3,599,012.00
Team cash: $107,862,171.18

Wonder if the cap room includes the savings of Walter's cut? IMO $3.6 million should bring a decent FA player as year goes on, maybe June 1st cuts? Then add $4m that could be added if JJ cut seems like a lot.

Who the hell is the Eagles cap guru? The guy is money in the bank. I'm just gonna sign everybody to monster contracts, have a $10.9 million carryover, and come out $16 million under the cap, respect.

That's barely enough room to sign rookies. Crazy...

I thought it had been well documented that money for draft had already been accounted for? Sort of like the $ set aside for Mario.

Ummm, I don't see anything on JLCs page that indicates he's accounting for rookie signing money. Seems to me like this is the amount of free money for each team. May have to cut someone else to save some cash if that is all we have.

He lists the team cap that has been noted before and several posts on other threads have said draft included. That's my understanding. I could easily be wrong but comments on cap are all over the place.

I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if the NFL hasn't figured out the amount of money for each team's rookie pool money. It hasn't been announced as far as I know, so I can only assume that it isn't being accounted for in these numbers.

i read a good piece that says ppl always overestimate the cap hit of rookies because they confuse rookie pool and cap. its makes sense when you think of how every rookie bar 1st rounders earn pretty small salaries/bonuses and since only the top 51 count towards the cap, either the later rookies dont even make the top 51 or if they do they knock one of the last guys off (who's hit would usually be in the 500k range), the difference to the cap is minimal.

take our 1st rounder in account, jimmy smith (ravens-26th pick in last yr draft) cap hit was 1.694 by my calc. when you take off the cap hit of the 51st guy on the team that he was knocking off, his impact on the cap was likely less than/~ 1m

Sounds like in the end the hard headedness of the players may of really bit them in the ass. In a few seasons pretty much every team will be up against the cap and all these "star" players will be accepting contracts for half of what they "think" they should get.

Serves them right IMO Some of us have jobs that make this country run, that make this country prosper, and we will never see that kinda money unless we hit the mega millions but with 157,000,000,000 odds i dont like my chances. These guys who play a "game" make some outrageous money 100 million to play a game, come on.

Personally i will love the day when all the teams are up against the cap and a player can either play for less or not play at all.

Yep

The Eagles have been manipulating the cap and draft for yrs. If they really want I guy they figure out how to get a deal done.

If I were BoB I would offer whatever it took to hire the Eagles cap guy. He's the Eagles biggest advantage within their division.

He figures out how to get deals done in FA. Other teams need to take a lesson from the way the Eagles are doing business.

If you believe these numbers, New Orleans has $1,415,308.00.
How can they possibly sign Brees?

Except where all that extra tv money is going to. Forget free agency; what about the escalators in most contracts that we kept hearing about that was effecting teams? Those contracts will continue to increase significantly and with most teams up against cap, what happens then? I am not a conspiracy nut but something still doesn't seem right.

I posted the top 7 contracts from the Eagles and Texans (too much info to post) and I just don't get it. All of their top 7 contracts are equal to or greater than $48 million, and to my untrained eye I don't see back loading to a massive degree when compared to the Texans top contracts. It seems to me that both team's do it to to a certain degree but their players are payed a lot more. This is when I shake my head.
