Tebow gets booed at Yankees game

While attending a Yankees game on Friday, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said that the “feels bad” for “the Sanchez” because fans will be cheering for backup quarterback Tim Tebow during the first game of the 2012 season.

New York fans attending Sunday’s game at Yankees Stadium got a chance to chime in.

Art Stapleton of the Record reports via Twitter that Tim Tebow was shown on the large video monitor attending the game, and that his image was greeted with “loud boos.” Later, Stapleton explained it as “[f]aint cheers” and “mostly boos.”

Though we won’t know what the fans at MetLife Stadium will do until they assemble for a Jets game and Tebow trots onto the field, it’s safe to say that Tebow won’t be hearing many cheers if/when he starts burning worms and/or putting balls in the front row.

UPDATE 10:29 p.m. ET: The Associated Press item from the game also says that Tebow was booed.

The ESPN broadcast showed Tebow, who wore a Yankees cap, chatting with Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade early in the game at their seats on the third-base line, by the Angels' dugout. Tebow's brother, Robby, later tweeted a photo of the action.*

Wade was also booed when he was shown on the scoreboard earlier in the game. But those boos quickly turned to cheers when Wade held up his Yankees cap.*

Later Sunday, Wade was asked via his Twitter account whether the boos were for him or Tebow.*

I never thought too much about Sanchez, but I didn't really expect to see what I've seen from him this year. Do you think Tebow being there affected him?

If so, wouldn't that in itself say something about Sanchez?

I don't think that Sanchez was a pro-bowl QB or anything in previous seasons, but his play has undoubtedly regressed this year.

No one, even those involved know completely what the effect has been of Tebow coming in, but I would hazard a guess that a lot of this is because of the psychological crap caused by the Tebow circus.

Interestingly this season could destroy both Sanchez's and Tebow's NFL careers (Sanchez because be bombed, and Tebow because it is clear to most that unless your team is signing him as QB#1 there is going to be more trouble than he's worth).
