Hello! We are at the 2nd round pick for the Texans in the 2012 TT Mock Draft. Thought it would be worth it to poll the masses to see what you guys would do in the case that the following players are available:

Alameda Ta'amu NT 6'2½" 341 Washington
Ronnell Lewis OLB 6'2" 245 Oklahoma
Brandon Boykin CB 5'9¼" 183 Georgia
Dwayne Allen TE 6'4½" 255 Clemson
Brandon Thompson DT 6'2" 311 Clemson (for 3-4 DE spot)
Mike Martin NT 6'1 306 Michigan
Isaiah Pead RB 5'9⅞" 193 Cincinnati
Shea McLellin OLB 6'3 260 Boise State
Ben Jones C 6'2⅝" 303 Georgia

!!!You do NOT have to vote immediately!!!
Feel free to discuss in this thread what you think of the proposed draft picks and why you think whomever would be the best pick for the Texans. The poll results are Public and it will be closed in 3 days. You may only select 1 player.

Brandon Thompson would be a no brainer pick here, he's easily the best player and best value at this point. In reality he's probably a low 1st or very high 2nd round pick.

I am between Lewis and Martin here. Both are players, and I hope the Texans land one of them.

That said, I am fine with just about all the players on the list-

Alameda Ta'amu NT 6'2½" 341 Washington
Big NT with good athleticism. Subpar Senior year, but had an injury.

Brandon Boykin CB 5'9¼" 183 Georgia
Not wild about this pick. A round early (IMO), and I doubt he is any better than Harris.

Dwayne Allen TE 6'4½" 255 Clemson
The Texans' offense runs on TEs. Nice pick.

Brandon Thompson DT 6'2" 311 Clemson (for 3-4 DE spot)
I have just never been wowed by the guy. Solid player, would not be crazy about the pick, but I would not hate it.

Isaiah Pead RB 5'9⅞" 193 Cincinnati
Meh. 3rd string RB this early? I'd pass. The only pick here that I legitimately dislike.

Shea McLellin OLB 6'3 260 Boise State
I like it. Pass rush specialist, plays balls to the wall.

Ben Jones C 6'2⅝" 303 Georgia
Position of need, strong player in arguably the best conference in the nation.

What about Bruce Irvin? I know some guys wanted a pass rusher in the 1st and you could hit that right here. He's not great against the run, but he would be a 3rd down specialist as a rookie since we already have our starters at OLB.

And I would hate a Ta'amu pick.

For me, it's down to these 3 guys. I'm leaning towards the OLBs, but I just don't know which one is better for Wade's system. Lewis was a standout special teams player at OU, which helps his case, and he has a non-stop motor. I really like his pass rushing abilities and I think he could challenge for Brooks Reed's starting spot.

I like Brandon Thompson, but I'm not sure how good he would be in the 3-4. I had him rated higher due to me having the Browns 4-3 in mind. He would be great depth at DT for that team. I figure he could be a DE or NT in Wade's 3-4.

Ronnell Lewis OLB 6'2" 245 Oklahoma

Brandon Thompson DT 6'2" 311 Clemson

Shea McLellin OLB 6'3 260 Boise State

Tough call.

Mario isn't gone yet and I think the Texans are working hard to re-sign him so I don't see the need at OLB yet. Also Cody will be hitting FA after next year so it would be nice to have replacement all ready to go. Picking Thompson also frees up the Texans to move Earl Mitchell to depth at DE, a more natural position for him.

That's exactly how I feel as well. Two-deep would look pretty solid, IMO.

THIS!!!!! There is no one on that list even close to him.

I selected Brandon Thompson out of Clemson .... But with todays events with Winston being released , I kinda wish there was an OT on this list. :kitten:

This changes everything. I know for a fact the Texans like Mitchell Schwartz of Cal, now I better understand why. He would be a great fit here & would start immediately making a late 2nd rd. Grade good value.

I want to change my pick...

Brandon Thompson and it's not even close.

Not sure how I missed his name there...He is easily the best player there and would be a steal for us there in the second round...

I went McClellin. I think he's the best fit schematically although maybe not BPA which Thompson probably is. Doug Martin wasn't available right? That guy will be a beast.

Martin was available and I suggested him, but he was not put in the poll.

I like Mitchell Schwartz as well. He started all 4 yrs. at OT, 2 on each end of the line thus the reason I had him in some of my mocks. I was taking him in the 4th or 5th rounds but he's since moved up the depth charts and probably goes in the 3rd.

Its been reported over and over everyone should know if they have been paying attention.

Schwartz would be a great pick in the third. Nate Potter Boise St is someone to check out also.

Feel free to follow the following mock as a blue print. :)

I like this idea of a mock.
1st Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State
Now the second rated DT by Mayock. Can dominate in stretches. Great at getting off the line. Heady player that plays with alot of emotion. Think of a smart, bigger A Smith.

2nd Vontaze Burfict, ILB, Arizona State
Has fallen on most boards after a so so senior season. Still there is no other ILB in this draft with his explosion to the ball. He really fits this defense well and will add the extra threat of blitz up the middle that Ryan's just isn't capable of. Phillips coaching will return him to his JR year play where he was considered dominate.

3rd Nate Potter, OT, Boise State or Mitchell Schwartz, OT, California
Both these guys are perfect fits for our scheme and have all the attributes we seem to look for in OL.

4th Jake Bequette, OLB, Arkansas
Had a bad first half of year but blew it up in the last four games. Can contribute on special teams right away and is talented enough to see reps behind Reed and Barwin sooner than later.

5th Winston Guy, Jr., S, Kentucky

Will be a solid special teams player immediately. At 6'1" and 216 LBS Loves to hit, good open field tackler, has experience at CB so is solid in coverage. Also has kick return experience.

6th Jarrett Boykin, WR, Virginia Tech

I love this guy. If he had played at a more pass oriented school would be better known. Has the size 6'2" and 220 LBS with huge hands that catch the ball away from his body. Is Andre like with the ball. Not elusive but a bull to bring down. Very good blocker. Had a personal-best 440-pound front squat and a 40-inch vertical jump during off-season testing. Walters eventual replacement.

7th Evan Rodriguez, FB/TE, Temple

Versatile player that can play TE or FB ala Casey. Is really good after the catch. Will be the number one selling jersey in south Texas.

Burfict or Vinny Curry would be excellent 2nd round picks. I think Burfict will still be there in the third though, his draft stock is plummeting.

From what I hear Burfict was terribly slow at the Combine and terrible in interviews.

Good, maybe we can steal him in the third then. He has insane closing speed, much faster in pads. And Burfict has been pretty tough to get more than 2 words out of in interviews most of his college career.
