Try to Sign the both of the elite talent guys first, then look at meyers and brisiel. So far so good with foster out of the way Its time to see if mario was serious about not seeking to be the highest paid defensive player in history. I think if he controls his agent & doesnt let him convince him to take bigger money elsewhere, we might be able to get him back in the fold...if not, he's likely gone.

2013 - $5.2 mil salary + $2.8 mil prorated bonus = $8.0 mil cap hit
2014 - $6.8 mil salary + $2.8 mil prorated bonus = $9.6 mil cap hit
2015 - $6.8 mil salary + $2.8 mil prorated bonus = $9.6 mil cap hit
2016 - $7.0 mil salary + $2.8 mil prorated bonus = $9.8 mil cap hit

Check my math...
1) First Year $18 mil = $14 mil signing bonus + $4 mil salary
2) 3 years $30 mil = $14 mil signing bonus + $16 mil in salary
3) Total deal $43 mil - $14 mil signing bonus + 29.8 mil in salary

Overall, a good deal (not great but very solid by front office) for a future Hall of Famer and a critical fit to the team.

At 2nd glance this is not right, the total contract is 43.5 not 43

$12.5 million signing bonus / $2.75 other bonus (incentives)

2012 - $4.95 million salary, $2.5 signing bonus, $550 other bonus, $8 mil cap
2013 - $4.95 million salary, $2.5 signing bonus, $550 other bonus, $8 mil cap
2014 - $5.95 million salary, $2.5 signing bonus, $550 other bonus, $9 mil cap
subtotal ($18 million in year 1, $30 by year 3)
2015 - $5.95 million, $2.5 signing bonus, $550 other bonus, $9 mil cap
2016 - $6.45 million, $2.5 signing bonus, $550 other bonus, $9.5 mil cap
Total - $28.25 million salary, $12.50 signing bonus, $2.75 other bonus = $43.5 million

Essentially 2012 salary, signing bonus, and incentive are already guaranteed which gets you to the $18 million 2012 and $2.75 difference in guarantee & bonus is essentially in roster bonuses with a logical $550 amount.

I don't believe in curses. I will gladly vote for Arian to be on the cover of Madden. He has earned it.

This would be badass:

This is one curse I actually believe in. Other than my own cursing, which is different. I'll be voting for ANYONE before I vote for Foster for this.

Peyton Hillis - Mr. One Year Wonder, not really unexpected.
Drew Brees - Great season, defense fell apart in the away playoff game. The "Super Bowl hangover" isn't that uncommon anyways, but they still won 11 games.
Polamalu - Missed some games due to injury, team didn't do well and missed the playoffs.
Fitz - Great season, started every game, made second round of the playoffs
Brett Favre - Traded to an inferior team, but had a pretty typical season compared to his last couple. Statistically he wasn't that much worse than the last couple seasons.,
...

It's not a 100% thing at all. Arian or Andre would be fine regardless of what game features them on the cover.

Fantastic deal and where people are saying it doesn't look favourable to Foster, I actually think the structure looks very positive to him, it means he likely plays out the entire contract, where the big 6 year backloaded ones likely will be cap casualties before they reach the big $$$'s. I'd guess Foster earns more in 5 years than CJ1K earns in the first 4 of his deal for instance.

He also likely gets one more big contract if healthy, as he'll be right around the point where his performance isn't going to have dropped off yet although he'll be a ticking time bomb by then.

Foster on the cover of Madden 13? I'd prefer if he wasn't.

Nah we can skip on that Madden Cover.

It's not like Houston Sports Teams are not already battling against fate itself just by trying to be successful.

Last year I voted for Chris Johnson I think. The AFCS isn't that scary anymore but if Luck is in the running then I guess I'll vote for him.

I think Arian is a Texan for life by accepting this deal. How cool is that

Reminds me of when Andre Johnson first extended his rookie contract, to stay a Texan. Then later in passing said it would be nice to re-negotiate & so the Texans did making him set for life. Give it two years & the same thing could happen for Arian.

I also feel similarly in regards to Mario. I think it's in the best interest of all involved to get a deal done. This gives me added confidence it could in fact happen. If it does, I think we could enjoy the ride of our collective Texans lifetime.
