Foster was the least of the big three FAs I thought we needed to lock up.

I hope this doesn't come back to bite us when Caldwell is our starting C and Foster is being gang tackled 5 yards deep in the backfield.

I would now sign the o line and TE let Rackers and Mario go.

I know.. The guy is playing at a HOF pace with the numbers he's putting up so far (excellent start so far), has the best vision in the league, and the best "cut" in the league, and he's the FA that should've been signed the least.. ???

People said Arian would be tackled 5 yards in the backfield when Vonta left and if Myers leaves (which I don't think will happen) I doubt Arian is going to all of a sudden "suck". Foster is worth EVERY penny that he received today (anybody who watched our playoff run should see that) and he's going to be a key piece that allows us to win a title if we should get there. You don't let players of his caliber walk out the door... you lock them up and we did that today. Good job Texans.

Did you see Caldwell filling in for Briesel? What is the drop off from Myers to Caldwell?

We'll have to wait and see what else they do, but if we have an OLine featuring Caldwell and Studdard starting........

Default Re: Texans come to terms with Arian Foster

D. Williams got a 16 M signing bonus so lets base Fosters off this....we will round his to an even 15 to make it more simple math

his bonus would be UP FRONT, thats why it is reported he gets 18 MILLION this SEASON, but for cap purposes it is prorated over the life of the contract, meaning for 5 seasons 3 M will count against our cap (unless we cut or trade him prior to his contract expiring)

Now he is guaranteed 20.75 and it is payed in the first 3 seasons, we will assume he took the LEAST amount this season to help our team and salary cap plus he gets a massive cash bonus. That means the AVERAGE IS 6.92 M, but you cannot increase a salary more than 30% each season, SO I will take away 30% in year one, give him the average (6.92) in year 2 and increase that 30% in year 3

Then you would take the first 3 years of 20.75 and subtract it from the total contract 43.5 and would have 22.75 left for the last 2 seasons

Year 1 - 3M (signing bonus) + 4.84 M = 7.84 against cap
Year 2 - 3M (signing bonus) + 6.92 M = 9.92 against cap
Year 3 - 3M (signing bonus) + 9 M = 12 against cap
Year 4 - 3 M (signing bonus) + 11.375 M = 14.375 against cap
Year 5 - 3 M (signing bonus) + 11.375 M = 14.375 against cap

This would be MY GUESS how this is structured, could be slightly different because some of this could be incentives

Arian Foster gave #Texans hometown discount. APY of $8.7M puts him only No. 4 among NFL RBs. Behind AP, DMC, CJ1K. Barely ahead of DeAngelo.

We give 23 our hearffelt namaste:

Not to mention that as a UFA his first 3 years he was vastly underpaid, especially this last year when people said he should hold out. Mr. Foster is pure class. We as fans could not ask for more. He got a fair deal and wrapped it up without holding out, without talking to the media, without whining about he was so unappreciated and underpaid he was - he negiotiated just like he plays. Great Job by both sides!

The guy deserves it. Stepped up big time during the season and the playoffs and basically carried this team at times this past season.

The question is, would that make Mario's Franchise tag, that of an LB, instead of a DE? (save a few $$ anyways)

This doesn't matter in Mario's situation because he made MORE than the franchise numbers for BOTH positions, so we would be required to give him a 120% INCREASE to his 18 plus million which means 22 plus million for the franchise tag number on Mario

If we do lose Myers I highly doubt it would be Caldwell that takes his spot.. We've been grooming him at guard since he was drafted.

If we lose Myers (which I don't think will happen... I think we'll be hearing news on him very shortly and that Foster's deal was the blockade that was holding up any further moves), I'm pretty sure we'd draft a center very high if that happened or sign another FA. They would have other backup plans other than Caldwell.

It's easier to find another center than it is to find a all pro caliber RB. RBs are a dime a dozen...yes, but Foster is special. He is not a dime a dozen runner.

Who says those guys are going anywhere? If anything I think this means it's less likely we can keep Mario (I hope I am wrong). I think Myers and Briesel both stay, don't hit the panic button until we see how it plays out.

I am waiting on that news. I just value building from the trenches and when you get good pieces you got to lock those up...... and that doesn't even mention Duane Brown needing to be extended just around the corner.
