790 just said Foster's new deal probably not backloaded as Arian has been on very low deal and would want some money now. That is cool but does not help sign Mario.

Peyton Manning is not coming to Houston. Jezzzz, I wish that crap about him and Houston would stop. UFO's landing in Reliant would be more likely than Peyton Manning in a Texan uniform.

Seems weird that they would classify the entire OL as "one position" in terms of the franchise tag value.

It was just part of the negotiations with players. The idea was to keep the tag cost as high as possible so that only true franchise players get the tag. They combine all linebacker positions as well. Here's the list of the numbers compared to 2011 values:

Oh I understand the reasoning behind it, I still just think it is funny/weird. To me that would be like lumping all safeties and cornerbacks into a "DB" category for franchise purposes, or not differentiating between DEs and DLs. Kind of sucks for tackles to have their tag value dragged down by guards and centers.

The salary differential for MLBs/OLBs isn't that much different, IIRC. But the difference between those other groups seems pretty significant.

It doesn't drag the tag amount down - it potentially increases it. The formula uses the five and ten largest salaries, so either all five/ten are LTs anyway, or there is a guard or center who's in the top five/ten which actually drives it higher than if it had only been calculated using only LTs

You're right, it increases the payday for the G/C, doesn't reduce it for the Ts. Although, since we're in a salary cap league, money into one man's pocket basically amounts to money taken from another man's (especially when someone is getting overpaid, i.e. a guard making left tackle money). I still don't agree with the lumping of all linemen together as a position, that just seems silly. At the very least split them into interior and exterior positions.

Actually, come to think of it, the tackles probably hate this practice, because it makes them more likely to be targets of the franchise tag, while interior linemen are less likely to be hit with it, simply because of the pay disparity. No front office is going to want to pay an interior lineman elite tackle level money. So, the interior linemen probably love this even more.

Great for Foster. He deserved it. Now let's us hope he doesn't go all Chris Johnson or Shaun Alexander on the Texans and keeps running as hard as he does....

No sigh of relief cause i knew he wasnt going anywhere....it was just a matter of if they were going to franchise him or not & how close they were going to let negotiations go to the deadline....looks like the texans rewarded him for not holding out & making a stink last year......on to the next one.

Great number for the Texans. Just a little over 8 mill is well within what I wanted to see.
