Potential draft picks and "Pro Bowl Potential"

Whenever I watch tape on a guy I tend to have a category that I call "Pro Bowl Potential" meaning that this guy flashes the ability to be a real impact player and not just a solid starter. Out of all the guys I have watched that might be around when we pick in the first the guy who flashes this the most IMO is Arthur Brown, LB, Kansas State. While I think that Andre Hopkins would be a solid player and probably day one starter I think that he has less of this potential and would probably be a long term solid starter but not a star. Which guys do you think flash the most Pro Bowl Potential who have a realistic chance of being available when we pick in the first?

I think Justin Hunter-WR has room to grow and alot to learn but I think that he could be a Pro Bowler a couple years from now if he's willing to put in the work. With all the things that are measured on players, I wish there was a way to measure their work ethic, focus, and commitment.

It's a tough question to answer.

If you may, let me recount the biggest draft bust I've ever chosen:
Ryan Leaf.

OK, so I hardly knew about stuffs back then; and there were no Internet, nor game tapes to evaluate.

Funny sheets is that we were on vacation to Seattle at the time; and I was pretty hot on Leaf's trail, some locals gave me the "semi-royal" treatment.

We drove around the Pudget Sound to get to Port Angeles to take the ferry over to the island; I guess the eagerness to converse to make friends carried me away.

I was so high on Leaf as the locals were; it's fun to recount the experience.

Man, you wouldn't believe the pedestal they built for him.
In retrospect, I don't blame them.

Hey, I thought he was more than pretty good, just the same.

It was a great vacation for sure; and the fact that I was completely wrong on a QB prospect made it even more memorable.
I had such a good time being wrong, hahahaha!

Good feedback, thanks. The one think that worries me about Hunter is that his coach called him out on his attitude and work ethic. He has a ton of upside but I see it as a red flag when your own coach calls you out. Here is a link http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-dra...couting-report. One thing that I like about Brown is that it has come out that he pretty much eats, drinks, and sleeps football. Much in the mold of Watt and Cushing. I think that the FO will take notice of this. I'm not even really sure that I would like us to take a ILB in the first but if there is one I would want it to be Brown.

Oh yea, I have been there too. My childhood friend, Old Miss Texan, wanted us to pick Watt but I preferred Cameron Jordan. I was soooooo wrong on that one.

Dooley was a terrible HC.

He was a good recruiter but did absolutely nothing with that talent.

A team that has 2 1st rd picks at WR, my #1 rated QB a servicable OL that will have atleast 3 draft picks, A TE that will play in the NFL. A defense that has 2 draftable DL. 2 draftable LB's and 2 late rd DB's. But cant even make a bowl game, makes you question the HC.

Lets see who has had attitude problems sice Dooley has been HC.

Marquess Wilson, in my opinion, will be either the best receiver or second best behind Patterson to come out of this draft. Hope we can scoop him up with that 3rd round comp pick.

I am also intrigued by Arthur Brown. He should be available in the 2nd or maybe early 3rd right? If we can draft him in the 3rd(If he lasted that long), it would be a real steal I think. No, I think we need to draft him in the 2nd if we really want him.

I don't kow if I like him as much as you do. But, I do think Wilson would be a good 3rd day pickup. Profiles as a WCO WR who can come up with the catch while covered.

I guess the guys I think are Pro Bowelers out of this draft are the guards, Warmack and Cooper. Both are better than last year's top guard, DeCastro, who went #24.

I second both those. I think Allen's knee injury + the combine is going to push him down to us. If we determine that his injury won't affect him too much in the pros... make it happen Rick. I have a sick feeling in my stomach that someone is going to pick Hopkins before us, though. Some WR hungry team like the Rams or Vikes.

When Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round, no one thought he was a Pro Bowler. When Arian Foster was signed as an UDFA, no one thought he was a Pro Bowler. What makes a player a Pro Bowler is something that the Combine can't measure or film doesn't show. It's focus, work ethic, heart, and commitment. No one can give it to you or coach it up, it's either in you or it's not. That's what makes a Pro Bowler.

I didn't know if Foster was a Pro-Bowler.
I just liked his running; and I thought he's a good fit for us, being a down-hill runner.
I thought his pass catching ability and blocking were fine (better than average.)

A little problem with ball security (but I thought the criticism was excessive.)
Not an elusive runner, but a nice complement to Slaton whom we had at the time.

I was surprised he didn't get drafted.
He looked better than Montario Hardesty to me.
I even made a note in the evaluation thread that I saw better blocking for Hardesty overall (it just happened that way.)

I think Hardesty was drafted in the third round the following year.
Actually, Hardesty was drafted near the end of the second round.

No, I didn't think about Pro-Bowl or anything like that; I just thought he's a good overall back; definitely better than Walker or Gado.
I thought he could make the 53-man roster.

I saw a little ESPN story/documentary on Foster a while back. It was about his commitment to the game between his first and second season. He used the fact he wasn't drafted as motivation to get better and show everyone what he could do. He was a beast in the weight room that offseason and then showed everyone their mistake in season 2.
