It's just a matter of perspective, I suppose.

Making up a new stat that would kind of support your opinion doesnt really refute his. I would guess that when a backup replaces a starting QB in the nfl more than 50% of the time that team doesnt win the superbowl.

I did not make up a stat. It is what it is.

And I do not dispute your chosen perspective. I'm just not a chicken little fan who goes into hand-wringing mode when a player goes down. Dudes are professionals and we should have at least some hope that they can succeed. NLF history clearly indicates that it's possible with numerous examples.

I never said it wasnt possible. I said despite you coming up with a different stat his statement that most, ie more than 50% of the time was probably still correct. It really has nothing to do with what your perspective is or chicken little anything.

Its not like we didnt have our very own clash with this issue during the season. Now I know there were plenty of people with their perspective out of whack when they thought Yates was the greatest, thought we had a QB controversy in houston and were talking about all the what if Yates takes us to the SB or OMG even wins????

Did Yates have a chance to do it? Sure. What it very likely? Nope. Same with the bears as well

Only seven times and it has not since 01 and if you read I said win the the Super Bowl not just make the playoffs where you'd be much better off with your best QB. Some just like to nit pick posts. Did I say it has not ever happened? Do you think if Matt went down much earlier the Texans make the playoffs after losing Leinart too?

Well far be it from me to counterpoint Captain Obvious statements.

I was giving the point way to much thought.

The Chicago Bears missed the playoffs but there is not any way to know how Houston would have done had they lost Matt sooner than they did.

Which doesn't really speak to the point. The Bears and the Texans both lost their starting QB's after 10 games. The Bears were 7-3 and lost the first five games after Cutler went down to finish 8-8 and out of the playoffs. The Texans were 7-3 and finished the last 6 games at 3-3 which enabled them to make the playoffs and win a first round game.

Sometimes backup QB's matter.

Gary, I was not trying to nitpick your point and argue with you. I was going into it with friendly conversation as my objective.

The "if" questions are always interesting, because it's pure speculation. No telling how our season would have been if Schaub went down sooner, and no telling how it would have ended if Schaub had stayed healthy through the playoffs (I think Super Bowl, but purely a homer take after a great season).

Point taken. But, it still does not occur very often where you not just make the playoffs but then win it all. My point to DB which is not Caption Obvious IMHO.

No need, my friend. I was stressed at work this morning (still am now!), so while 'on hold' I check out the forums. Sometimes my brain reads something different than posted (my last two brain cells aren't as good at multi-tasking!), so I never meant to insult you in any sort of way.

Obviously, most teams starting their backup QB during the season experience a drop off in performance, and the Texans were no different. But, we should still keep hope alive, as there is always a chance that they can rise above their status.

I guess this means we are a good team now, when the only thing there is to complain about is the backup QB likes sleeping.

OK. First, I don't want VY here. Not sure who got that impression. I'm not pro or anti VY. If Kubes makes the decision that VY can help, then let him help. If not then don't. You nor I know what Kubes thinks of him. Second, when I read the tweet I thought it was ridiculous, its the offseason and things get boring. I thought it was interesting that Leinart would post something like that because to me I wouldn't poke at someone who is better than I am for not "appreciating" a good nap.

It seemed to me as if he was poking fun at Schaub for never sleeping. We know about the first QB in Texans history and how he didn't spend enough time in the film room to turn physical tools into results on the field. I have always been under the impression that Schaub does this because noone has ever questioned his work ethic, in fact when he was a Falcon everyone lauded his leadership and work ethic. Leinart has a reputation for not working hard enough and for being full of himself. The post to me is almost like him poking fun at Schaub for saying "sleep is overrated"... Why does he think that? Because he works his ass off.

I wasn't bashing him for taking a nap. If I were the understudy I would try to emulate his behavior as much as I could.

Mike

Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw, Jim Plunkett, Doug Williams, Jeff Hostetler, Trent Dilfer, Tom Brady were all guys that won a Super Bowl while not starting at the beginning of the season.
