Dorrell comes to the Texans from the Miami Dolphins where he spent the last fours, the first three as receivers coach and last season as quarterbacks coach. He worked on the Denver Broncos staff from 2000-2002 when Gary Kubiak was the Broncos offensive coordinator.

Before joining the Dolphins, Dorrell was head coach at UCLA for five years, compiling a 35-27 record before being fired after the 2007 season.

I got no problem with who he hires on the offensive side, it's just the defensive guys that were really called to question.

Very good hire. We now have 3 coaches on our staff with Head Coaching experience. I would have been good with bringing Sherman back on our staff as well, but wish him well in Miami as their OC.

I think this is a good hire. Anybody who already knows the system Kubiak is running is helpful.

The Texans offensive staff is very collaborative. They do a lot of cross-positional teaching. Yeah, the labels of the assistant coaches matter because those are the guys in charge of those positions, but often each assistant helps reinforce the details of this offense to players outside of their positional responsibility.

As a basic point, it is good that they don't need to completely bring new guy up to speed.

IIRC, the Texans tried to hire him before but were denied permission to interview.

From HC of a major college program to a mere position coach ? This guy is definitely way overqualified and that's a real drop in money and status and responsiblilty.
