Terrell Owens has always been an island of sorts. His brash personality and self-absorption routinely alienated his teammates during an NFL career that teetered between terrific and toxic, leaving him to fend for himself.

Now, at 38 and out of football, he's lonelier than ever, and running out of money. In a GQ profile, Owens comes across as wounded, broke and desperate. When people text him to ask where he is, he replies back: "I'm in hell."

But is it his own fault? That's the perennial debate on T.O., who had a heartbreaking childhood but continually pointed fingers at everyone but himself once he became an adult.

In the GQ story by Nancy Hass, Owens blames the media for not giving him a chance to rehab his injury, blames agent Drew Rosenhaus for not protecting him from a bad business arrangement, and -- perhaps most surprisingly -- blames a former team captain for his issues with former Philadelphia teammate Donovan McNabb.

Owens earned around $80 million during his NFL career, but has found himself in deep financial trouble, despite never spending lavishly. In the February edition of GQ, Owens admits to trusting the wrong people, who in turn cost him a lot of his fortune.

80 million is what he got from the NFL. I bet he got at least 20 million more from endorsements, advertising and TV show revenues. It's just pathetic that he ends up in this situation when a guy like Carson Palmer has 80 million in the bank. Palmer was surrounded by a team of criminals his entire career and ended up with 80 mill in his account. TO's got no excuse.

I'm not sure how you came to any conclusion to ***** about JJ in this thread honestly. NO team in the league wanted the guy for a reason. TO would have been ranting and raving all over the sidelines at TJ Yates by the time we faced the Jags. The Texans had a great locker room and a lot of great leaders. No way in hell they were going to be dumb enough to bring in a poison like TO. You obviously haven't learned from his history at how effective he's been in destroying locker rooms.

I won't assume that TO would gave ranted and raved at TJ by the mere fact when Tony blew it at the goal line in a playoff game, he came to his defense. I doubt is any true Cowboys hater has forgotten the tears and "I love my quarterback" quote through tears. Even if insincere, it couldn't have come at a better time for a young rookie from a seasoned veteran.

I'm not a TO apologist and believe that he could have made a great name for himself had he just gone out there and played the game and kept the opinions (some I agree with) to himself.

And funny how you forget all the termoil that he caused two seasons later where tore that locker room apart. He had a shoving match in the locker room, he went at it with Todd Haley, he had the suicide incident with the pills, he caused all sorts of problems on the offense and made up some pathetic conspiracy about Romo and Witten having their own plays for each other. He became a complete disaster in Dallas. Even Jerry Jones finally pulled the plug on him when he loved the guy and the attention he brought to the organization, but everyone from within kept forcing Jerry's hand. There is nothing good that you could say about TO in his tenure in Dallas other than the fact that he put up strong numbers. He disrespected that entire team multiple times for years.

You clearly have no understanding of what has taken place in his career. ESPN didn't make TO scream and get in his teammates faces for no reason the sidelines. ESPN didn't make TO cause such a problem that the 49ers were forced to trade one of the best WR's in football at the time. ESPN didn't make TO try to imply that his QB was gay so the rest of the team could alienate him and embarrass him publicly. ESPN didn't cause the Eagles to get so frustrated with him to the point that they had to pay him just to leave even when he was putting up huge numbers. ESPN didn't cause even Jerry Jones of all people to release the guy. ESPN didn't make up some story about two suicide attempts by taking pills.

You're a fan of the guy obviously and an apologist for his actions. They speak for themselves.

And once again, you aren't aware of anything the guy did. It didn't take him even 4 games before he started criticizing his QB in Buffalo. He said things about Trent Edwards as well, but the Bills sucked so bad that it was hardly talked about. It was no surprise though, that TO didn't help that team or create any boost over there. It was also no surprise that he wasn't wanted back over there either.

The Bills were the only team in the NFL that would even touch him, so how in the world do you say that this was "media hype"?


Also in Cinci he trashed the entire organization at the end of the year, and yeah it wasn't talked about a lot, because the Bengals sucked really bad so it really didn't matter what TO said or did at the time.

There are 32 NFL teams and not one has wanted to touch the guy this year. The Texans were obviously right at not wanting to deal with the guy either. He is still a cancer to the people around him even in his own personal life.
