2012 Senior Bowl Thread

I didn't see a thread regarding the 2012 Senior Bowl so I decided to make up where we can post notes and comment. I will be pulling my info primarily from draftcountdown.com but feel free to post relevant info from other sites.

Here are some notes that caught my eye:

Wisconsin OG Kevin Zeitler was incredible at right guard. Zeitler wowed onlookers and showed a real nasty streak in the 1-on-1 drills. Alameda Ta’amu is just one of the guys who struggled to make anything happen against the Badger blocker. On the day Zeitler was only beat once and looked every bit the part of a first rounder.

Michigan DT Mike Martin isn’t flashy but more often than not he finds a way to get the job done. Martin went up against Mike Brewster four times and beat his rival in each instance. Martin isn’t dynamic but few have better upper body strength.

In 1-on-1 drills Wolfe even beat Mike Adams off the edge at one point and was the only player to get the best of Kevin Zeitler. Wolfe is also stronger than he looks.

He checks in at 6'4-1/2 and 286 lbs.
Good length and hands.

NFLDraftscout projects him as a 5th-6th rounder but Scouts Inc. sees him as a 2nd-3rd.)
He plays mostly 34 DE and 43 DT but also lines up at NT from time to time.

Good college production.

He looks like a good fit for our scheme.
I'm still evaluating him, but a 4th round grade is probably the lowest I'd give him.
He would be of great value there, I think (at the moment.)

His stock will rise as many will but at same time some others must fall. I see nothing staggering about his game other than he works hard & should continue to develop, becoming complete player. Time will tell, in large part upon who drafts him & what position he will play? For Texans I see him as quality depth 5 tech, which I doubt Smith would spend more than a 5th rounder on, even if he were to move up. I like him & would mock him accordingly.

I've always loved Mike Martin. The guy is a football player. He's not flashy and he doesn't really stand out all the time, but he ALWAYS does his job.

Nice to see two of my guys (Zeitler and Wolfe) getting props.

If we resign Mario I expect we will loose one of our FA OL. Most likely Myers since he made the Pro Bowl and will likely cost more to keep. Hell we may loose Myers anyway. Look for Atlanta to make a run at him. If thats the case I wouldn't be surprised if we moved up for Zeitlers former team mate Peter Konz or trade back and go after Zeitler


You can never have enough quality DL that play hard and can get into the backfield. Wolfe is that kind of a player. I wouldn't be surprised to see us take him take him in the third round. Possibly the second if he impresses at the combine. After the Senior Bowl I see him moving up a few slots as some of the higher rated prospects like Winn fall a little.

I agree! Martin is tough and never gives up no matter what so just having him as a teammate can fire up other players who see is dedication and determination.

He is also a former wrestling champ so he understands leverage and can be an effective defensive line. Now only if he could use his hands more and develop some pass-rush techniques, it would greatly improve his draft stock.

The fact that Zeitler can take on a 337-lbs behemoth and hold his ground already has me excited to see him during the combine.

Anyone know anything about a guy named Quick who played for Appalachian State? Not sure if he is in the Senior Bowl (probably not) but read somewhere he had 2,000+ yards receiving this past season!

He was in the game, had two catches for 10 yards. Big body, raw new to football, former Basketball player. would not mind taking late round flyer on the kid. Joe Adams, Arkansas looked really good & explosive out of his breaks (8 receptions 133 yards). Criner was the most productive of the big body WR's (6 receptions 77 yards & a TD) displayed strong hands & ability to use his body to protect the ball/catch.

BL, how do you think about Criner as 2nd or 3rd rd prospect?

Criner looked good, also ran a couple of really nice routes. Adams also looked solid. He would look good as a slot WR.

Tough to judge some of South WRs, I thought the QB play was a bit spotty.

I'd be reeeeally happy with either of them. As much as I prefer size in a WR (read that I like Criner), Adams fills two needs - slot WR and PR. I'd hate to have to decide between the two.

I think the Texans are in a position to that. Especially considering that one wr needs to be a punt returner.

Did Shanahan run the zone blocking scheme? Did any of the o-linemen shine?
