Luck or RG3?

Before the year started Luck was the consensus lock for #1. With a dazzling late run that landed him the Heisman some people (not myself) are rethinking their position on best QB prospect in this draft.

Who's your pick and why?

Pocket passing - Luck by a mile.

Offense designed to allow QB scramble and active pocket - RG III by a mile.

I'd take either, but Luck is easier to plug in to ANY offense.

Such a tough choice. On paper these two might make this the best QB draft of all time to me.

RG3 seems like he has a higher ceiling if things go right for both. I really like what this kid brings.

Luck though seems like he is slightly less of a risk.


I'd have to do thorough interviews with both guys, and they'd I'd have to make that determination. They're to close in their talents to just say one over the other. There is no wrong or right answer.

See, I don't see Luck being better by a mile passing wise. RG3 is a serious passer and is really good down the field.

Luck is a pretty damn good scrambler himself as well.

They'll both be terrific. If you desperately need someone to come in and start from day 1, Luck. If you have the luxury of allowing a year or two to learn the pro game RG3.

I think RG3 has great touch on the long ball, but I'm not sure I am sold yet on him being able to throw into into windows.

Dissacks I'm with you on the advantage of Luck being able to be plugged into any offense and I think that two inch height and 15ish pounds difference will help down the road for luck as being able to withstand the punishment of the NFL.

Passing in general, no. RG III reminds me a little of Culpepper/Vick in that he can make great throws while scrambling. Confined in an NFL pocket, I'm not sure he'd be near as effective.

I think the trash teams that need a Qb are lucky that they have a high pick this year and not last year or the year before. These two guys will be better than Bradford/Gabbert/Locker Ect....

Cam will go two ways. I see him being one of the elite QB's in the NFl and not in above list. But he could get a VY sized ego and vanish due to not evolving his game.

Luck is Luck, but RG3 is better than your average speed QB as far as touch, accuracy, and QB skills. I saw a lot of his games (future sister in law is a student there) and the dude isn't a mobile QB, a gadget QB, ect. He is a Quarter back, and I think will be a very good one.

He can throw way better than Vick and Culpepper could coming into the league. He is light years ahead of Vick with his arm, and he really isn't comparable to Vick any way. Vick was a run first kind of guy that passed, and Vick has never been a good passer until last season when he had the best skill players in the league and worked a lot harder at it.

RG3 is more like Aaron Rodgers with more speed. Take away his skin color for a second, and the way he passes and looks to pass, he is more like an Aaron Rodgers type of QB. I'm not saying he can throw like Rodgers, but coming out of college he isn't any worse than what Rodgers looked like at that time. RG3 may have crazy speed, but he uses that to scramble around to buy extra time, not to be a runner. He'll run if he has to which is a great attribute and gives him other ways to make plays, but don't underestimate his arm and his passing abilities, because he is much better than other athletic black QB's like VY, Vick and Cam Newton who many like to compare him to because he has crazy speed and because he's black. He is more like Aaron Rodgers or Steve Young.

The NFL is very pass-heavy nowadays so Luck is the logical choice, HOWEVER, you can't deny RG3's ability to make plays by running. Look at Cam Newton and the success he had, if Cam could do what he did with the limited experience he had in college, RG3 should easily be able to exceed those expectations and perform better than Cam IMO.

Id take RG3.

He is the more dynamic player. Luck is still a really good prospect, but he was less impressive this year than last IMO.

But I like RG3's overall game better and if he is put in the right system I think he can be very good.

RG3 is really good down the field ..... Luck does check it down an awful lot.

Both throw a nice deep ball.

Really tough decision IMO. I think Luck has less upside but also less risk.

I like RG3 more simply because of his dynamism. I think Luck will be a good one too, but if I had to pick one today I'll go with the Heisman winner.

Yes, and that's the perfect way to really explain it. That's why I said earlier that I'd have to interview both of them and see which personality I felt more confident with for the next 12 years for their careers. It's to close of greatness to put one easily over the other.

He has a much better arm than Cam Newton though, and looked to pass a lot more than Cam did in college. I don't really see him and Cam as being comparable players. Cam was a carbon copy of VY, but ended up being a better passer than Young. RG3 is more like an Aaron Rodgers type of player.

If I have the number one pick I am taking Luck. Nothing against RG3, but Luck has all the tools, and has shown them the last couple seasons. I dont want to say RG3 came out of nowhere, but lets just say no one was touting him as a first round, let alone top 5 or number 1, pick before this season.

RG3 needs to show me he can play in a pro style offense. I think he can, but it may take a season or two to be at Luck's level. And by then, Luck should have progressed as well.

RG3 does have the higher upside in my opinion, but I just dont think he gets there. He should be a starter for a long time, and a good one, but not on the Brees, Rodgers, Manning, Brady level. One notch below.

All this said, the success of Newton helps out RG3 here. Newton had a fantastic season, and showed that it is possible to come from a spread offense and succeed at the NFL level.

Well it's hard to project anyone to be on an elite status of those 4 QB's. All 4 of those guys are not only elite QB's right now, but all 4 are going to the HOF.

I'd take Luck, he's got a longer track record of being great and I think he is a better decision maker, traditional pocket passer, can make all the throws, better size for the position, football intelligence, but athletic enough to move if needed. RG3 is more athletic and it impresses me that he throws so well on the run, and can make every throw. In our system I'd take Luck but it all depends on the individual teams system.

Yep, I know. I think Luck will be a top 5 QB in the NFL a couple years into his career. Lets say by 2015 or 2016.
