It didn't seem like things could get much worse for the New York Jets following their season-ending loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday and the ensuing drama surrounding wideout Santonio Holmes' end-of-game benching.
But then the calendar turned to Monday. n a locker room scene that appeared to boarder on the surreal, Jets players gathered their things and took out the frustration from a disappointing season on the local media. The Star-Ledger reported that multiple players refused to talk to reporters -- including the normally chatty Darrelle Revis -- while Bart Scott yelled at a photographer. According to ESPN New York, Scott also gave the photographer an obscene gesture and said, "Get that out of my (expletive) face." Newsday reported Sunday that it's likely the Jets will cut ties with Scott this offseason. Scott made just 66 tackles, his lowest total since he with the Baltimore Ravens in 2004. "All I know is I got a guaranteed contract for $4 million," Scott said when asked about his future with the team. Holmes, who Jets coach Rex Ryan named a team captain before the start of the season, also did not speak to reporters Monday. The Star-Ledger reported that Holmes was escorted out of the locker room by public relations staff. All of this transpired following Ryan's tearful end-of-year speech to his team, during which he reportedly pleaded with his players to be a team. "He was crying because he loves us," Jets guard Matt Slauson said, via ESPN New http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d...ddressing-team |

I know that a lot of people cant' stand Rex and don't like to hear his mouth, but in his 3rd season as HC, he was a game away from another playoff birth. He has been an effective HC since he has been there thus far.

All I heard after the lockout was how dangerous the Jets were going to be. How they made some great moves in free agency. It was their year this year.
Fast forward to today, the players are snapping at media...Rex is crying...it's not a good 2012 for the Jets so far. Are we going to have to suffer through the Pepsi commercials they run with all the Jets players, especially the one where the truck drives into the locker room and the Pepsi guy gives the Jets players a pep talk? They should have had Pepsi guy give them a speech this morning. Instead, they got a manic Rex Ryan.

The Jets team had been carried by their defense over the past two seasons, and their defense took a slight step back this year and lost it's consistency which was mainly due to their pass rush not being as dominant. I'm not sure why their pass rush fell off some this season, but it did and that effected their secondary's coverage. Revis wasn't able to shut guys down nearly as easily this season when he had to cover a lot longer than usual. |

Personally, and I should know since I foolishly drafted the guy last year AND this year for some odd reason, Shonn Greene and the run game sinked their ship. No run game, not even with LT helping out. That's not helping anyone. They are reacting like a bunch of guys who were told, via the media hype machine, that this was their year and they didn't even make the playoffs. Poor sports galore.

Outside of being a jerk and a big-baby who likes to talk profanity to conceal what a Pusxx he is, he's OK with me. BTW, I just heard that Ryan has already predicted a win for the Jets in the 2013 Super Bowl.

I found this reader's comment at the bottom of the espn.com story on how Sanchez and Holmes had trouble with one another this week in practices:

As to making playoffs 2 out of 3 years, meh... They got served the playoffs on a silver platter in 09 by the Colts, they had a good year in 10, and they sucked this year. So, I think he's been pretty average. |

Mark Sanchez is clearly an average QB at best and Greene didn't establish himself as a top-notch RB either. They need to get better offensive players. I think their defense was good enough to hide some of their offensive problems the last two seasons, but this year proved that they aren't anywhere close to being a quality team on the offensive side of the ball.

Going to the AFC Championship game two years in a row is the opposite of being average. That's being an elite team in the AFC. They may have lucked into the post season their first year because of the Colts, but they took that opportunity and ran with it, and almost ended up beating the Colts to go to the SB. Last season they had one of the best teams in the league all year and ended up beating the #1 seed Patriots where they lost another extremely close game in the AFC championship game to the Steelers who had already won two SB's in recent years. This year they were one game away from the playoffs again as a WIldcard. There is nothing average about that considering that this was Rex's first 3 seasons. Take away with hate and annoyance for Rex, and most teams would take that in their first 3 seasons any day of the week under a new HC.

When these guys are winning they are all in front of the camera ready to say anything to anyone. Now that they are facing a little adversity they are reacting this way.
Also I'm sure they are all disappointed. All year long Ryan talked about how they were going to the superbowl, and to not even get into the playoffs is a huge disappointment. I imagine if he hadn't been so cocky at the start of the season a lot more people would have cut him some slack. He's still a good coach in my eyes but he's going to deserve the media attention he gets. Maybe he'll turn it down next year and see that it's not a good idea to guarantee superbowls before the season starts. They had to deal with that pressure week in and week out. |

I took great pleasure in the Jets choking away the playoffs - i like it a lot when people that invite bad karma get theirs

Also when you constantly are writing verbal checks that your team has to constantly try to cash, when they fail to do so it'll eventually blow up in your face and you'll start to lose the locker room or even have other players coming at you (see Brandon Jacobs). It also puts a ridiculous amount of unneeded pressure on you and your team and the local media (in this case the NY media) will start to turn on you, as well as the fans..and that is what is now happening in NY. Has his record as a head coach been good in NY..yes it has, but people won't look at that. They're starting to focus more on the the issues off the field rather than what is happening on it. (and his loud mouth is a BIG reason for that) His record as a head coach is fine, but it's time he starts acting like a head coach. Being a head coach is like being a CEO of a major fortune 500 company and you have to carry yourself a lot more professionally since you hold the biggest leadership role in the company. That schtick can work wonders when you're just a coordinator and all you have to do is rally your guys (defense) and get your guys to play for you, while the head coach (CEO) has to do all the interviews and answer all the questions. But when you're the head coach it's only going to work for so long and players will end up getting tired of it and after awhile they'll just hear a bunch of noise and tune you out. I think that's what is starting to happen in NY right now. If he keeps on doing the same song and dance he's going to find himself unemployed in NY and despite his coaching record other owners will be weary to hire this guy as a head coach as a lot of the owners won't want the headache or the unnecessary attention. I think he really "jumped the shark" when he went after Coughlin and the Giants. You couldn't have two more polar opposite head coaches and they happen to coach in the same city. Coughlin is a no nonsense taskmaster who prides himself on discipline and professionalism... Rex Ryan is a say anything loud mouth who lacks discipline and professionalism. (Not to mention one of these coaches actually has a SB ring, while the other just likes to talk about the one he's going to win ) I think his comments really ate at the Giants and pissed them off as they also take on the persona of Coughlin and I think it completely blew up in Ryan's face and made him look like a absolute fool. Now fast forward a week and he's having to bench players and is losing control of his own team.. Go figure.
